Below we take a look at Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades, notes and snap counts from Indiana’s week 12 game against Wisconsin– a 31-7 win to remain perfect on the season.
The Hoosiers are No. 1 overall at PFF through 11 games. They have the No. 2 offense in the nation behind Ohio State, the No. 2 defense behind Texas Tech, and the No. 8 special teams.
Indiana (11-0, 8-0) has the week off. They’ll face Purdue in West Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 28.
OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS
Fernando Mendoza had the top overall offensive grade after completing 22 of 24 throws for 299 yards. One of his incompletions was a drop. 11 of his completions went for first downs. Mendoza was pressured seven times and sacked five times. He said after the game some of those sacks were his fault for holding the ball/missing a read, and the PFF pass blocking data discussed below does lend support to that.
The top receiving grade went to Charlie Becker, who caught five of six targets, scored a touchdown, and had no drops. Becker was IU’s deep threat, with an average depth of target of 20.5. Becker has caught 12 passes for 226 yards over the last two games. Tight end Riley Nowakowski led IU with 55 yards after catch, including a touchdown reception during which he broke multiple tackles (photo above).
Roman Hemby had the top running back grade, with 14 carries for 58 yards (4.1 ypc). He led the Hoosiers with 35 yards after contact, and had IU’s longest carry of the day, which was just eight yards. Hemby picked up five first downs. Khobie Martin led IU with two missed tackles forced. As a team, IU rushed 37 times for 83 yards (2.2. ypc) including sack yards. It was their lowest output of the season.
The top pass blocking grade went to Carter Smith, who allowed no pressures. He’s only allowed five pressures and no sacks all season. Pat Coogan had the top run blocking grade on the team. Khalil Benson was the only offensive lineman to allow multiple pressures, with two. PFF only attributed two sacks to the offensive line, which ostensibly means the rest go to Mendoza.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS
The top overall defensive grade went to Devan Boykin, who lined up in the box, the slot and at free safety. He earned the top coverage grade, which was heavily influenced by him earning an interception on his only target.
Rolijah Hardy had the top pass rush grade, and he led the team with three quarterback pressures in only four pass rush attempts. Hardy was credited with five stops — tackles that constitute a “failure” for the offense. Hardy did struggle in coverage, giving up four receptions for 39 yards on five targets.
The top tackling grade went to Louis Moore. He had six tackles and no misses. He co-leads the team with 66 tackles on the season.
Stephen Daley had the best run defense grade. He had four tackles including three tackles for loss. And Daley had the forced fumble that put the game away. Daley now leads the Big Ten with 13.5 tackles for loss on the season.
