Indiana has a good chance to be back to full strength when the Hoosiers face either Oklahoma or Alabama in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
Starting wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr. left the Big Ten Championship in the first half with a leg injury and did not return. He was on the field for the postgame celebration and had a noticeable limp.
Coach Curt Cignetti said Sunday afternoon Cooper, Jr. is still being evaluated.
“Omar we’ll know a little bit more as we go, we don’t expect it to be anything” Cignetti said.
Cignetti delivered the encouraging message that Cooper, Jr. is expected to be ready for the Rose Bowl, along with other players who dealt with injuries Saturday evening against Ohio State.
“We don’t think there was anything that happened in the game that will affect our next game.”
Cooper, Jr. limped off the field after attempting to catch a deep throw from Fernando Mendoza. Cooper twice went into Indiana’s injury tent, and the trainers appeared to be attending to his right ankle before he left for the locker room. He sat on the bench, still in uniform, during the second half and did not return.
Starting right guard Bray Lynch and defensive end Mikail Kamara were also dinged up during the Ohio State game.
Indiana (13-0) returns to action at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 at 4 p.m. ET.
