Indiana football will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 with a game against North Texas at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, North Texas reported on Wednesday.
This was a spot previously filled by Colorado State. The Bloomington Herald Times is reporting Colorado State paid IU to void that contract.
The North Texas Mean Green (named after Pittsburgh Steelers legend Mean Joe Greene) play in the American Athletic Conference. In his third season leading the program, head coach Eric Morris has North Texas off to a 4-0 start that includes a 59-10 home win over Washington State. With a top-10 scoring offense and the nation’s best turnover margin, they’ve also defeated Army and Western Michigan on the road.
The Mean Green were 6-7 a year ago and played in a bowl game.
IU is 1-1 all-time against North Texas, with a road loss in 2011, and a home win in 2014.
Here is what we know about next season’s schedule to this point. The Big Ten has not yet announced the dates for conference games.
