IU basketball transfer portal names to know: Minnesota’s Jamison Battle

The latest name to know in the transfer portal should be a familiar one for Indiana fans.

According to a report by 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham, Minnesota forward Jamison Battle is hearing from a number of schools including IU after putting his name in the portal last week.

The 6-foot-7 and 220 pound Battle has been a key player for the Golden Gophers over the last two seasons.  He averaged 17.5 points per game in 2021-22 while shooting 36.6 percent from three.

Battle’s numbers did take a dip this year.  While struggling with foot and back injuries on a bad team, this season, he averaged just 12.4 points per game and shot just 31.1 percent from long range.

Battle started his college career at George Washington in 2019 and played two seasons there.  He earned Third Team All-Atlantic 10 honors for his sophomore season at George Washington after he averaged 17.3 points (35.4% three) and 5.3 rebounds.

He also entered the portal following the 2020-21 season and arrived at Minnesota under then new coach Ben Johnson.

According to Branham, Battle’s suitors also include Xavier, Clemson, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Utah, LSU, Ohio State, Illinois, Santa Clara, Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, Cincinnati and Villanova.

Indiana is losing its entire starting front-court following the 2022-23 season, so there’s a clear need in that area next season.

The Robbinsdale, Minn. product has one season of eligibility remaining.  He started all 56 games he played for Minnesota the last two seasons, and 45 of 47 games at George Washington.

Battle attended DeLaSalle H.S. in Minnesota and played AAU for D1 Minnesota on the Adidas circuit.

The 21 year-old Battle has also been reported to be considering his professional options for next season.
