IU basketball will take on North Carolina in a preseason exhibition on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the program announced Monday morning.
The tip time and television designation will be announced at a later date, Indiana Athletics says.
This is the second year in a row IU has held a public exhibition at Gainbridge. The Hoosiers faced Baylor there a year ago.
There have also been reports of an IU exhibition against Murray State at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. on Oct. 25. IU has not yet confirmed that matchup.
Like IU, North Carolina has seen major change this offseason, including the hiring of new head coach Michael Malone.
The Tar Heels welcome back Jarin Stevenson (8.1 PPG), Isaiah Denis (1.9 PPG), Jaydon Young (1.8 PPG).
Incoming transfers Terrence Brown (19.9 PPG at Utah), Neoklis Avdalas (12.1 PPG at Virginia Tech), and Matt Able (8.8 PPG at NC State) headline the offseason additions, along with incoming freshmen Maximo Adams, Kevin Thomas, Sayon Keita, Malloy Smith, and Alex Samodurov.
Indiana and North Carolina have met 16 times on the hardwood, most recently a 77-65 IU victory on Nov. 30, 2022, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
While it’s just an exhibition, the game will involve to of college basketball’s most iconic programs.
North Carolina (6) and Indiana (5) are two of the six programs in Division I men’s basketball to claim at least five national titles. Both programs rank inside the top-10 in championship game appearances, Final Four appearances, NCAA Tournament appearances, and March Madness victories.
Tickets will be available through Gainbridge Fieldhouse beginning on Thursday, June 18. Fans can sign up for presale ticket access here.
