IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2024 Maryland based combo forward Khani Rooths

The Washington D.C. metro area continues to be an area of focus for the Indiana staff led by assistant coach Kenya Hunter.

One of the more recent players from the DMV to receive an offer from the Hoosiers is 2024 top-40 forward Khani Rooths his AAU program confirmed with The Daily Hoosier.

Rooths is a 6-foot-7 combo forward, and he has the profile that the Indiana staff is prioritizing, with a versatile inside/out offensive game and the defensive length and intensity to guard several positions.

National 247Sports analyst Travis Branham wrote about Rooths this summer — “Rooths not only showed his ability to defend at a high level but he also rebounded and displayed upside as a scorer on the offensive end,” Branham wrote.  “He scored in the post, mid-range and connected on a three off the catch. He has a high floor as a versatile defender, positional rebounder and has upside as a versatile tool on the offensive end.”

In a separate piece, national analyst Eric Bossi described Rooths.  “He was easily one of the most intriguing prospects playing in his age group,” Bossi said.  “He’s a big-time athlete with just as much agility as he has explosion and he’s got a versatile inside out game.”

Rooths attends Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md.  For AAU basketball he is part of the Adidas aligned New World program in the Washington D.C. metro area.

He was ranked No. 32 overall in the class in Rivals’ first 2024 top-40 rankings.

Indiana joins Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Xavier as schools who have offered Rooths so far.
