IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2024 top-40 guard Jaeden Mustaf

On the first day of direct contact with the class of 2024, Indiana offered shooting guard Jaeden Mustaf.

A Maryland product, Mustaf announced the offer on his Twitter page.

Mustaf attended DeMatha Catholic but has transferred to Carmel Christian in North Carolina for his junior year of high school.  He averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a sophomore according to his MaxPreps profile page, while playing alongside top-100 seniors and former IU targets Tyrell Ward and Rodney Rice.

Mustaf is ranked No. 40 in the class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite.

While he is currently listed at around 6-foot-5, Mustaf is an interesting case.  His father, 6-foot-10 Jerrod Mustaf, played for Maryland before being selected with the 17th pick in the 1990 NBA Draft.  The Terps could be tough to beat in this recruitment, as his mother also went to Maryland.

A big combo guard, this is how 247Sports national analyst Adam Finkelstein recently described Mustaf’s game.

“A powerful body from head-to-toe. He has athleticism, playmaking ability, can be dynamic in the open court, and is an advanced finisher for his age,” Finkelstein wrote.

“In today’s college game, that prototype is extremely valuable because it is one that should eventually allow him to play and defend multiple positions and be ideal for systems that prioritize multiple playmakers, pick-and-roll handlers, and playmaking threats.”

For spring and summer basketball, Mustaf runs with New World on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, where he plays up with the 17u team.  That’s a program IU assistant coach Kenya Hunter has ties to and IU has made several offers including most recently his teammates Khani Rooths and Jamie Kaiser.

So far Mustaf has offers from Harvard, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Xavier and Rutgers.
