    IU basketball recruiting: 2026 wing Anthony Thompson official visit primer

    Indiana welcomes class of 2026 5-star wing Anthony Thompson to Bloomington this weekend for an official visit.

    To help get you ready, below is a comprehensive look at Thompson, with everything you need to know as he arrives on campus Friday.

    ESSENTIALS

    Status —  OFFERED (February, 2024)

    -Class – 2026
    -Hometown – Lebanon, Ohio
    -School – Western Reserve Academy (Ohio)
    -Position – Combo forward/wing
    -Height – 6-foot-8 (7-foot-3 wingspan)
    -Weight – 205
    -AAU – Indiana Elite (Adidas 3SSB)
    -Ranking – 5-star at 247 and ESPN, consensus overall national top-15 in the 2026 class
    -Primary Competition – Thompson named a final seven in July:  Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Purdue, and Texas.

    Other visits — Thompson set official visits with all of his finalists except Purdue over the course of August and September.

    Favorites — The schools most often mentioned as the favorites for Thompson include Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan and Kentucky.

    Timeline — Thompson is likely to make a decision in October upon the conclusion of his scheduled visits.

    Indiana Connections — Thompson has a long history with Indiana going back to the prior staff.  He has been on the IU campus several times.  The new staff was able to maintain and even enhance Indiana’s standing.  IU assistant coach Drew Adams has deep connections with Thompson’s AAU program.

    On Indiana:  “Coach DeVries, I’ve developed a good relationship with him and his staff at Indiana,” Thompson told TDH at the July Adidas 3SSB event in Rock Hill S.C.

    Pedigree — His father, Brian Thompson, played college basketball.

    Numbers — Playing with Indiana Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring and summer, Thompson averaged 22.1 points and 5.7 rebounds and shot 38.7% from three.
