IU Basketball: Indiana 82 Nebraska 74 — Three Keys | Final Stats | Highlights

Indiana defeated Nebraska by a final score of 82-74 at Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday night.

The final game stats, highlights and keys to the IU victory are below.

The Hoosiers (14-4, 4-3) will host Michigan State on Thursday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

    THREE KEYS TO THE GAME

A first half offensive surge.  Nebraska jumped out to a 23-14 lead and the Hoosiers looked like they could be in some early trouble with 12:18 left in the first half.  Instead, IU responded with an avalanche of points and outscored the Cornhuskers 28-11 over a ten minute stretch to take control of the game.  During the run IU hit five three-pointers including two from redshirt freshman Jerome Hunter.  The Hoosiers had only made 2-of-18 from long distance earlier in the week at Rutgers.

A season high assist total.  Another recent bugaboo with this team has been a lack of ball movement, and an accompanying lack of assists.  Against Rutgers the Hoosiers only had six assists.  Tonight,  the ball moved and IU compiled a season high 21 assists, with Trayce Jackson-Davis, Armaan Franklin, Rob Phinisee and Devonte Green all contributing four apiece.

Huskers under 40 percent.  The Hoosiers had their hands full trying to stay in front of Nebraska’s quick guards.  During the Cornhuskers early run to take a nine point lead it looked like IU might get blown out due to poor transition defense.  But Indiana made adjustments, including more playing time for the freshman Franklin, and IU did enough to slow down the Husker attack and bother their shots.  The Hoosiers had eight blocks and held Nebraska to 39.7 percent from the field.
