    Game Day Essentials:

    Maryland (15-14, 7-11) vs. Indiana (15-13, 7-10)

    • Tip Time: 2:00 p.m. Eastern, Sunday
    • Location: Xfinity Center (17,950), College Park, Md.
    • Television: CBS (Kevin Harlan, Dan Bonner)
    • Stream:  CBS Sports
    • IU Radio Network: IU Radio Network
    • Point Spread:  Maryland is around an 8.5 point favorite.
    • KenPom Projected Score: No. 99 Indiana 62 – No. 50 Maryland 71
    • Series: Indiana leads series, 13-9.

    Three keys from last meeting:

Indiana defeated Maryland 65-53 on Dec. 1.

    1. Cure for what ailed them.  Indiana’s early season bugaboos — 3-point defense and rebounding — were non-issues in this one.  Maryland shot just 2-of-16 from three, and IU held a 46-30 rebounding advantage.  Those factors contributed to an overall strong defensive effort.  The Terps shot just 35.7 percent from the field and scored just .841 points per possession.

    2. Kel’el Ware ready for Big Ten physicality.  The IU big man didn’t fare well against UConn in his first game against a high major, but he was up to the task in his Big Ten opener.  The 7-footer had a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.  Maryland threw double and even triple teams at Ware but he was an efficient 8-of-12 from the field.  On the other end he bothered the shot of Maryland’s Julian Reese, who made just 5-of-11.

    3. Galloway dynamic with Johnson out.  With starting point guard Xavier Johnson out with an injury, IU needed a dynamic playmaker, and senior guard Trey Galloway provided the answer.  Galloway had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists against two turnovers.  He tied his career highs in both rebounds and assists. Galloway did his scoring at the rim, getting points in transition and off dribble-drives and cuts to the paint.

Maryland’s game notes (via Maryland Athletics)

JAHMIR HAVING A SEASON TO REMEMBER

    • Jahmir Young has had a banner two seasons for the Terps since transferring from Charlotte. This season, he has built upon his 2022-23 campaign and is one of the top scorers in the country.
    • In terms of a single-season at Maryland, Young is turning in one of the top seasons in recent history. Young has also produced the 51st 500-point season in program history with 585 this year which ranks 19th for a single-season. He is the 13th player all-time in Maryland history to produce multiple 500+ point seasons.
    • Young is the first Big Ten player back through 2018-19 to have multiple streaks of 30-plus made free throws in the same season.
    • Young is looking to become the first Terp since Greivis Vasquez in 2009-10 to average over 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game.

    1,000 IN TWO AT MARYLAND

    • Jahmir Young has also become the fifth Maryland player to score 1,000 points in just two seasons, joining Joe Smith (1,290), Tom McMillen (1,283), Melo Trimble (1,102) and Terrell Stroglin (1,066). McMillen was the first to do it in 1973, followed by Smith in 1995. McMillen and Trimble went on to play three seasons while Smith and Stoglin only played two seasons at Maryland.
    • Young is the third-fastest Terp to score 1,000 career points, having done so in 57 games when he reached the mark against Rutgers. The fastest Terp to 1,000 points was McMillen, who did it in his 48th game. Smith scored his 1,000th point in his 52nd game, a dramatic 86-73 win over No, 1 North Carolina on Feb. 7, 1995.

    SCOTT CONTINUES RECORD BOOK CLIMB

    • Donta Scott became the 59th player in program history to reach 1,000 points last season. Through 29 games this year, he has 1,647 points and 847 rebounds becoming the 5th Terp all-time to post 1,500 points and 800 rebounds.
    • Scott joins Lonny Baxter (1,858 & 998), Tom McMillen (1,807 & 859), Keith Booth (1,776 & 916) and Terence Morris (1,733 & 925) in this elite group of Terps.
    •  Scott is now 15th all-time in scoring and needs 12 points to move past Melo Trimble (1658, 2014-17) for 14th. He needs 13 more boards to pass Tom McMillen (859, 1971-74) for No. 8 all-time.

    DOUBLE THE FUN FOR JUJU

    • Julian Reese’s 14 double doubles this season are the ninth most nationally and are 2nd in the Big Ten. Reese has 21 total including his career-best 14 this season. As a sophomore in 2022-23, he had seven.
    • Dating back to 2010-11, Reese has the fourth-most double doubles for any Terp.
    • Julian Reese is the only D-I player averaging 10.0+ points, 9.7+ rebounds, 1.90+ blocks and 1.00+ steals this season. In the last 25 years, the only other Big Ten player to put up these numbers was Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman in 2019-20.

    Maryland’s KenPom notable numbers:

    (out of 362 teams)

    Tempo – No. 310 (Offense No. 265 / Defense No. 331)

    Offensive Efficiency – No. 164

    • Although field goals aren’t a strong suit, Maryland gets to the line at one of the highest rates in the country at 42.6 percent (FTA/FGA, No. 11). Free throws also make up 24.8 percent of their points (No. 7).
    • Maryland does a good job on the offensive glass, with a 33.2 rate (No. 56).

    Defensive Efficiency – No. 5

    • Teams are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 45.7 percent against Maryland (No. 9). Teams are shooting 31.3 percent from three (No. 49) and 45.2 percent from two (No. 14).

    • Maryland’s also one of the better shot blocking teams in the country with a 12.2 percent rate (No. 41).
