    Three keys from last matchup

    1. Hoosiers go cold in Minnesota.  For over an eight minute stretch from late in the first half and into the second, Indiana didn’t make a shot from the field.  That was the most glaring part of what was an overall inefficient night from floor, as IU shot just 40% from the field.  The Hoosiers weren’t able to help their cause via transition or second chance points.  Instead they worked late into the shot clock for mostly contested shots.

    2. Rebounds and defensive energy lacking.  IU entered the game with concerns about their ability to rebound.  And those concerns proved to be well founded.  Minnesota finished the game with a 40-25 rebounding edge.  They corralled 10 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.  Indiana also seemed a step slow at times chasing shooters off screens and staying in front of the ball on defense.  Minnesota shot 48.9% from the field including 38.1% from three.

    3. Threes and frees — not this time.  Indiana relied on strong three-point and free throw shooting to start the season 7-0.  But with switching and sometimes zone defense, Minnesota focused on taking away Indiana’s top 3-point shooters Tucker DeVries and Lamar Wilkerson, who made just 5 of 16 from beyond the arc.  And when the Hoosiers started focusing on getting to the rim, they drew fouls but missed free throws.  IU made just 12 of 20 shots at the charity stripe.
