BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Marian in their lone home exhibition Friday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 106-64.

IU had five score in double figures and they were led in the game by Bryson Tucker with 19 points.  Malik Reneau added 18 points and a team high 8 rebounds, and Oumar Ballo added 16 points.

The Hoosiers will open the 2024-25 regular season on Wednesday against SIU Edwardsville.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the game from The Daily Hoosier.

    THREE QUICK REACTIONS

    1. Marian no match for Indiana’s size.  As you’d expect, Indiana dominated the paint against the undersized Knights.  The Hoosiers made a you read that right 40-of-45 shots (88.9%) from two, and outscored Marian in the paint 70-24.  IU also outrebounded Marian 48-28.

    2. Three-point shooting remains suspect.  For a second straight exhibition, the Hoosiers were uninspiring from long range, making just 6-of-25 threes.  Through their two exhibitions, Indiana is just 10-44 (22.7%) from beyond the 3-point arc.  Mackenzie Mgbako was the lone bright spot, making 2-of-5.  Luke Goode also made two from deep, but it took him nine attempts.  Goode missed his first 10 attempts from long range over the two exhibitions before breaking through in the second half.

    3. Tucker and Newton make their debuts.  Indiana freshman Bryson Tucker and redshirt freshman Jakai Newton made their Indiana career debuts.  Tucker made a strong impression with an array of mid-range shots and high flying shots at the rim.  Newton saw his first action in an IU jersey after taking a redshirt season following knee surgery a year ago.  Trey Galloway also played after missing the Tennessee exhibition.  It was his first game action since offseason knee surgery.  Anthony Leal and Kanaan Carlyle were not in uniform for the game.  Both also sat out of practice earlier this week.  Carlyle has bruised ribs, while Leal fell awkwardly at Tennessee on Sunday.
