IU baseball as bubbly as it gets as they await NCAA Tournament fate

Indiana’s season is in limbo at the moment, but the Hoosiers won’t have to wait long to find out if they’ll be playing in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Monday’s selection show will be a nail-biter for the IU players and coaches.

Indiana appears to be right on the cut line.

In Baseball America’s Sunday projection of the field, they have Indiana as a No. 3 seed at the Kentucky regional in Lexington.  That would make back-to-back seasons at Kentucky if it happens that way.  Baseball America says IU is the second to last team in the field.

On3 puts Indiana in the field as one of the last four teams in and predicts the Hoosiers are headed to the UC Santa Barbara regional as the No. 3 seed.

But highlighting their precarious situation, D1 Baseball says IU is the second team out of the field.

Indiana’s record stands at just 32-24-1, but a challenging schedule and improved play late in the season has helped keep them in the NCAA conversation.

As of Saturday night, IU played 26 quad one and quad two games. Jeff Mercer’s team had 12 wins in those two categories. It played the 39th toughest strength of schedule in the nation. The Hoosiers played 13 games against top-35 RPI teams and had four wins in those games.

IU finished 15-9 in the Big Ten and was the No. 3 seed at the Big Ten Tournament last week.  They advanced to the Saturday semifinals before falling twice to eventual champion Nebraska.

If the Hoosiers get an invite, it will be their 11th trip to the NCAA regionals.

The NCAA Tournament selection show is noon ET Monday on ESPN2.  Here are the rest of the key dates to know for the NCAA Tournament:

    SELECTION SHOW, KEY BASEBALL DATES
