Former IU sharpshooter Sara Scalia announced on Wednesday morning she’ll extend her playing career overseas.

The Minnesota product will play in Italy for Magnolia Campobasso for the 2024-25 season.  Scalia broke the news on her X account.

Officially signed a contract to play professional basketball with Magnolia Campobasso in Italy! I am grateful for the opportunity to continue pursuing my dreams. I look forward to this next step in my journey and where it will take me! https://t.co/3bqMBZBcYX pic.twitter.com/qo3KO6Zagb

The 5-foot-10 Scalia earned first team All-Big Ten honors in March.

The fifth-year averaged 16.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, and she shot 42.7 percent from 3-point range, ranking second in the Big Ten.  Scalia was fourth in NCAA for made 3-pointers and in threes per game.  One of the nation’s best 3-point shooters last season, Scalia knocked down an IU single season record 103 triples in her final season with the Cream and Crimson. She also shot a career-best 43.9 percent from the field overall in 2023-24.

Scalia started her college basketball career in her home state, with Minnesota.

For her career, she scored 1,981 career points and made 370 career 3-pointers in five seasons (three at Minnesota, two at Indiana).

She holds an average of 89.5 percent at the free throw line in her collegiate career.  Scalia combined to shoot 39.1 percent from the floor and 38.7 percent from the 3-point line in 144 collegiate games played.

She finished her IU career as the program’s leader in 3-point percentage (39.5) and free throw percentage (90.5).

Scalia went undrafted in last month’s WNBA Draft.  She was thought to be one of the top players on the board when the draft concluded.  The 12-team WNBA is in the process of expansion, with a new team (Golden State) set to enter the mix next season.
