The (5-6) Indiana Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette to play the (5-6) Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday at Noon.  The game will be televised on ESPN2.  It is one of the more meaningful Old Oaken Bucket games in recent history, as it is a “win or go home” scenario, with both teams needing the win to ensure bowl eligibility.  While it is at least possible to qualify for a bowl game with a 5-7 record, that isn’t something that either program is likely to feel good about.  Perhaps someday these programs will meet in a Big Ten title game.  Until then,…

It is understandable that Hoosier fans are already thinking ahead to next Wednesday’s home tilt with #1 Duke.  Assembly Hall will be electric, and after Duke’s rocky first half against Portland State, many are likely now believing that IU can pull off the upset.  Hopefully Indiana’s players aren’t falling into that trap because before they see the Blue Devils they need to take care of business at home against a 4-0 Eastern Michigan team.  Sure, EMU’s strength of schedule hasn’t been stellar and they haven’t left their home court yet, but they have played two common opponents, and there is…

Happy Thanksgiving!  Today Hoosier fans can give thanks that their men’s basketball now has a winning record at 3-2 and has worked itself back from the cliff that was the season opening 90-69 home court loss to Indiana State.  This team still has a long way to go but there are reasons to be optimistic, including: A star is emerging in Juwan Morgan.  This is a level of play that we always thought might be there, but he had previously played in the shadows of other stars and struggled with various injuries. Turnovers, perhaps IU’s biggest nemesis over the last…

Don’t let that final score fool you.  Similar to the South Florida game, this one was tight.  Uncomfortably tight.  For too long.  Let’s face it — when Robert Johnson goes 4-12 overall from the field and 1-6 from the 3-point line, this Indiana team is going to struggle to get separation from anyone. But for the second game in a row Juwan Morgan did it all and willed the Hoosiers to a win.  This time that included a  career high in points.  Did anyone ever see Morgan having a 28 point game?  This guy has taken his game to another…

As we detailed yesterday, Indiana has not lost a football game to Purdue since November 2012.  In fact, no player on IU’s roster has ever lost a game to Purdue.  In our ongoing series on the Old Oaken Bucket Game, today we take a look back to the 4 most recent games — which collectively have matched the Hoosiers’ longest winning streak in the series.  The other Hoosier 4 game winning streak was from 1944 to 1947.  That was one of the better eras in IU football.  Led by head coach Bo McMillin, the Hoosiers amassed a 27-9-2 record during…

In a press conference on Tuesday afternoon Indiana Head Coach Archie Miller indicated that Senior Collin Hartman will most likely not play in Wednesday’s game against Arkansas State.  He suggested that the training staff is monitoring the groin injury and taking a cautious approach to ensure that it is not aggravated further.  The concern is that if such an injury is not given sufficient time to heal it might be re-aggravated and derail an entire season.  Hartman is not currently doing anything “live” in practice at this point which means he is not participating in any contact activities. Miller indicated…

It is Bucket Game week 2017, as the Purdue Boilermakers host the Indiana Hoosiers this Saturday in West Lafayette.  In the spirit of the rivalry, today we take a lighter look at the series in light of the Hoosiers’ recent success. It has been a while.  There was the New Deal, JFK was assassinated, and the Cold War ended.  OK, perhaps it hasn’t been quite that long, but a lot has transpired since November 2012, the last time Purdue won a game in the Old Oaken Bucket rivalry series with Indiana.  The Hoosiers’ current 4 game winning streak matches their…

One thing that seems abundantly clear in the early portion of Indiana’s 2017-18 season is that its going to need much greater contributions and leadership from its veterans if it has any hope of producing a respectable season.  Through the first 3 games, upperclassmen Robert Johnson and Juwan Morgan had shown flashes but neither had put together a complete game.  Both changed that on Sunday in Indiana’s 70-53 win over South Florida.  Johnson had one of his better games as a Hoosier, scoring 21 points on 9-14 shooting including 3-3 on 3-pointers.  He also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and…
