Indiana knew they were getting a bright kid. Bryson Bonds arrived in Bloomington after being named first team academic all-state in Texas as a high school senior, and he was a parliamentarian officer of the National Honor Society. Of course the Crowley, Texas product can play football too. It is no secret that Indiana would like to add at least one guard to their 2021 class. The Hoosiers have several top forward prospects still on the 2021 board, but it is less clear who they are tracking in the backcourt. One name that has emerged recently is senior combo guard Shane Dezonie. The Indiana football program released a video of starting quarterback Michael Penix mic’d up at fall camp this week. A redshirt sophomore, Penix is fully recovered from a November sternoclavicular joint surgery. Former Indiana forward De’Ron Davis will start his professional career overseas. The Colorado native will play for the Killester Dublin Basketball Club in Ireland according to his agent. “De’Ron Davis out of Indiana University has signed his rookie deal to play in Ireland,” Strategic Athlete Initiatives, Davis’ agent wrote in a Twitter post.  “Davis will be joining Killester Dublin Basketball Club in the Superleague to be the leading force for their team in pursuit of a Championship!” Terms of Davis’ deal were not disclosed. The injury bug didn’t wait for the season to begin for IU. Senior safety Raheem Layne will miss a meaningful portion of the 2020 season according to defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Wommack indicated in a video conference with the media on Friday that Layne had a procedure but did not elaborate on the nature of the injury.  He suggested that Layne could return in the middle of the season. The state of Kentucky doesn’t regularly produce high end basketball talent, but it has a major star in the class of 2023. Louisville based small forward Kaleb Glenn is emerging as one of the top prospects in the sophomore class. Glenn averaged 13.4 points and 10.1 rebounds as a high school freshman.  He led the state in field goal percentage and was named first team all-seventh region. Former IU star Victor Oladipo has been the subject of unsubstantiated trade rumors for months. A report this week by Jared Weiss of The Athletic generated significant interest, suggesting that the Pacers’ guard is “looking to move on this offseason.” But was it just the latest guess aimed at generating subscriptions or clicks? Former IU quarterback Trent Green joined long-time NFL kicker Morten Andersen on the Great Dane Nation podcast. Green discusses a number of topics including his time at IU, his NFL playing and broadcasting careers, his role in Kurt Warner’s career, his son’s college careers, and much more. After suffering a health scare that resulted from COVID-19, IU freshman offensive lineman Brady Feeney has returned as a full participant at practice. Feeney became part of the national conversation in early August when his mother shared his health challenges in a viral Facebook post. According to his mother, Feeney dealt with heart and breathing issues after contracting the virus in Bloomington in July.
