Indiana defeated No. 8 Iowa on Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. by a final score of 67-65. Armaan Franklin hit a game-winning jump shot with two second remaining to give IU a sweep of the No. 8 Hawkeyes.  The Hoosiers were led by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Race Thompson had 15 points and six rebounds. The back half of the Big Ten slate begins on Sunday afternoon in Bloomington. When Indiana defeated Iowa just over two weeks ago it looked like a season turning point.  The direction of the Hoosiers’ 2020-21 campaign has indeed taken a turn, but things haven’t gone according to plan since that once promising road trip to Iowa City. Things aren’t going much better for Iowa, who has lost three of four after a 12-2 start to the season. Indiana sophomore guard Armaan Franklin met with the media on a Zoom conference on Saturday afternoon to preview the Hoosiers’ Sunday matchup with Iowa. A 6-foot-4 sophomore from Indianapolis, Franklin is averaging 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest. Indiana redshirt junior forward Race Thompson was featured on BTN’s popular documentary series “The Journey.” Thompson’s athletic family is profiled, along with his development at IU and early challenges in Bloomington. His father Darrell was a running back at the University of Minnesota from 1986-89 and was the school’s all-time leading rusher before being drafted with the 19th selection by the Green Bay Packers in the 1990 NFL Draft.  His mother Stephanie played volleyball at Iowa from 1986-89.  Thompson’s sister, Dominique, was an All-American and two-time Academic All-Big Ten volleyball player at Wisconsin during her tenure from 2010-14.  His sister,…

Indiana safety Jamar Johnson has been invited to the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine. The Sarasota, Fla. based Johnson was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2020, the first IU safety to earn that honor since Eric Allen in 1996.  He had four interceptions and 43 tackles, including 3.5 for loss in 2020.  Johnson was named the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week after a week one win against Penn State. Former IU star D.J. White joined A.J. Guyton on the House of Hoosier Podcast this week. Tuscaloosa, Alabama native White started in all 29 games he played in during his freshman season, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game during the 2004-05 season.  His productivity earned him Big Ten freshman of the year honors.  After an injury plagued sophomore season there was concern that White would transfer.  Mike Davis resigned in 2006 and White indicated that he was likely to look elsewhere. With a wealth of returning talent, Indiana is set up to have another big season in 2021. If Indiana is still in the NCAA Tournament hunt at the end of the month, it could face an unusually daunting and unexpected gauntlet before it can look forward to any postseason action.
