Indiana picked up a commitment from Florida based safety Phillip Dunnam on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1 and 180 pound Dunnam attends North Miami Beach High School in Miami, Fla. IU quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. was named to the The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award watch list on Tuesday.  The award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback. Penix completed 124-of-220 passes (56.4 percent) for 1,645 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2020, and he rushed for a pair of touchdowns. He averaged a Big Ten-leading 274.2 passing yards per game (18th nationally) and recorded a 136.54 pass-efficiency rating. Legendary IU basketball coach Bob Knight made an appearance at a reunion for former players on Sunday night in West Baden, Ind. Knight made a brief statement to the crowd of players and their families during the event. Some of the country’s top college quarterbacks are spending the weekend down in Louisiana and IU signal caller Michael Penix, Jr. is among them. Penix is one of several quarterbacks selected to serve as a counselor for this year’s Manning Passing Academy. The four-day event, which began on Thursday and runs through Sunday, is held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. It serves as one of the country’s premier football camps. Watch below as freshman tight end Aaron Steinfeldt met with the media for an introductory Q&A session. The 6-foot-5 and 245 pound Steinfeldt played tight end at Bloomington North High School.  He was two-time all-state, all-area and first-team all-conference selection.  Steinfeldt was the Indiana Football Coaches Association Mr. Football position award winner. A few months of spring and summer basketball have brought out some new names on the IU class of 2023 radar. 6-foot-8 Carmel, Ind. forward Sam Orme is a player who has the Midwest high majors intrigued with his length and rapidly emerging skillset. IU has announced that three athletes will share the school’s “Athlete of the Year” honor in connection with the 2020-21 athletics year ended on June 30. Women’s basketball’s Grace Berger, men’s soccer’s Victor Bezerra and diver Andrew Capobianco all claimed the distinction.  Each of the three were able to achieve significant individual accomplishments while helping their respective teams compete at the very top of their sports.
