Signing day has become fairly anticlimactic in recent years provided a team is not going through a coaching change, and that was the case on Wednesday morning for IU. Before 10 a.m. ET, all 21 previously committed members of Indiana’s 2025 class were announced by the IU football program, signifying that they had signed their scholarship paperwork to join the team. A pair of veteran Indiana natives made major contributions off the bench on Tuesday evening. Indiana was sluggish out of the gate against Sam Houston, scoring just seven points in the first seven minutes.  But a 29-5 first half run fueled by the bench helped give the Hoosiers a cushion.  The Bearkats pulled back to within 13 late in the first half, and got to within nine early in the second at 48-39.  But the Indiana bench came through again, delivering an extended 35-19 stretch that helped the home team pull away for good. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana defeated Sam Houston on Tuesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall by a final score of 97-71. Indiana led 42-25 at halftime.  The Hoosiers were led in the game by Myles Rice with 19 points.  Luke Goode and Malik Reneau each added 18. Indiana moved up a spot in the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings update. The Hoosiers are No. 9 in the latest update of the CFP rankings released by the Selection Committee Tuesday evening live on ESPN.  They were No. 10 last week prior to a 66-0 win over Purdue.  Miami fell six spots to No. 12, creating the opportunity for IU to move up. IU football coach Curt Cignetti was named the Big Ten’s 2024 Coach of the Year by both the coaches and the media, the league announced on Tuesday. Cignetti led the Hoosiers to an 11-1 season, the most wins in program history.  Indiana was predicted to finish towards the bottom of the Big Ten by virtually every national outlet. IU improved from 3-9 a year ago, one of the biggest turnarounds in FBS history. Indiana rebounded in an emphatic way following their first loss of the season, handing Purdue the worst loss in their program history.  In what was probably IU’s most complete performance, the Hoosiers dominated both sides of the football throughout the entire game. Indiana sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle will miss a second straight game when the Hoosiers face Sam Houston State on Tuesday evening.  That’s according to coach Mike Woodson on his radio show on Monday. “He didn’t practice the last two days, won’t play tomorrow,” Woodson said.  “Hopefully he’ll be back soon.” Carlyle, who is dealing with an undisclosed injury, also missed IU’s final game in The Bahamas against Providence on Friday.
