IU football picked up its first offensive line commit in the 2027 class. Michigan City H.S.’s Jeremiah Jones announced his commitment to the Hoosiers this weekend. “Thank you to the coaches at Indiana for this opportunity,” Jones said. “I’m blessed to say I’ve been offered by and have chosen to commit to Indiana University. Excited to be a Hoosier!!” The 6-foot-6 and 284-pound offensive tackle hails from Michigan City, Ind.  He’s the first in-state recruit in IU’s 2027 class. Indiana is starting to build an NCAA Tournament resume. The Hoosiers trailed UCLA for most of the first half, and fell behind 36-27 with less than a minute to go until the break before Reed Bailey completed a 3-point play to give them momentum going into the locker room.  IU asserted their will in the second half, gradually overcoming the deficit and then building a 10-point lead on multiple occasions.  But they’d give that away in the final two minutes, and then go back-and-forth for two tense overtime sessions. Indiana defeated UCLA 98-97 in double overtime at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. The three keys to the game, highlights and final stats are below. UCLA led 36-30 at halftime.  The game was tied at 76 at the end of regulation, and 84 at the end of the first overtime.  Indiana was led by Nick Dorn with 26 points.  Lamar Wilkerson and Reed Bailey both added 24. There were parallels between late game 4th down decisions in Indiana’s first round College Football Playoff loss at Notre Dame a year ago, and the national championship game at Miami last week. In both instances, IU coach Curt Cignetti had lost faith in at least some aspects of his offense. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti has often said that before he arrived, football had been neglected in Bloomington. And there’s data to back up that claim. According to information published in the Knight-Newhouse database, IU has increased its football expenditures every year since 2021, from $23.9 million to $61.6 million. 2024 was the first year at least going back to 2005 that IU exceeded the Big Ten median in total football spending. IU basketball has picked up a commitment from 4-star forward Trevor Manhertz. The 6-foot-8 Manhertz announced the news on Wednesday afternoon on his Instagram page.  He also announced he is reclassifying back to his original class — 2026. “After thoughtful consideration, and with the support of my family, I would like to announce that I will be re-classifying into 2026 and committing to Indiana University…Go Hoosiers!!!” Manhertz wrote. Manhertz is the the No. 52 overall player in the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite.  He recently reclassed up to 2027 but is headed to Indiana in his original 2026…

Darian DeVries is off to a good start against Indiana’s conference rival. Purdue took what was then the game’s biggest lead at 23-19 with 7:04 left in the first half.  DeVries called a timeout and the Hoosiers went on a 21-6 run to close out the first half.  Twice in the second half Indiana pulled out to 14-point leads, including 59-45 with 9:54 left.  But it was hang on time from there as the No. 12 Boilermakers got to within two points in the final two minutes.
