Indiana has flipped its financial emphasis to the other side of the ball, paying more to the offensive coordinator position for the 2022 season. New Indiana offensive coordinator Walt Bell will make $700,000 in guaranteed income for his first year according to contractual documents provided to The Daily Hoosier by IU Athletics. Bell’s contract also includes bonuses of $25,000 if Indiana scores 30 or more points in 60 percent of its games, and another $25,000 bonus if the team ranks in the top third in the Big Ten in scoring offense. The document also provides that If IU makes a…

Despite some disappointing efforts of late by Indiana’s starting five, don’t expect any changes when the Hoosiers host Penn State on Wednesday evening. IU has used the same starting lineup — Trayce Jackson-Davis, Race Thompson, Miller Kopp, Parker Stewart, and Xavier Johnson in all but one of its 19 games this season. The lone exception was a game that Stewart was ostensibly suspended from playing in for the first half. While Indiana is 14-5, it is fair to say the first five has been erratic throughout the season, unable to string together consistent performances — especially against high major competition.…

Indiana’s dramatic win over Purdue on Thursday was thrilling for the players and fans alike. And the benefits went beyond posting a win against a top-five opponent and ending a long losing streak to the Boilermakers. The game also created a memorable experience for a high-profile recruiting target of head coach Mike Woodson. Class of 2023 Finnish guard Miro Little was in Bloomington on his junior year official visit last week, and he sat directly behind the Indiana bench for the 68-65 win over Purdue. Little was seated at the game next to 2023 point guard commit Gabe Cupps. What…
Three years ago Tom Allen was comfortable turning over the game day defensive play-calling duties to Kane Wommack, a young up-and-comer the IU head coach was quite familiar with. That decision paid off, as Indiana produced effective defenses in 2019 and 2020 under Wommack’s direction, and Allen found more time to be involved in the offense and recruiting, and less demands on his time during gameday. But the defense dropped off dramatically in 2021 under one-and-done defensive coordinator Charlton Warren. To get things back on track, Allen is going back to where he started at Indiana — calling the defensive…
Nobody said it was going to be easy to stack wins in the Big Ten. All the good feels from Thursday evening dissipated into the cold January afternoon as Indiana was soundly defeated by Michigan on Sunday, 80-62. The Wolverines jumped on Indiana early, claiming a nine-point lead just over five minutes into the game and extending the advantage to 16 before IU pulled back to within eight at halftime. The second half followed a similar script, with Michigan going back up by 16 in just over four minutes. IU made multiple mini-runs but was never able to get closer…
