Indiana quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. has an “AC separation” and his status is week-to-week as he goes through rehab, Indiana head coach Tom Allen said on Monday morning. Penix suffered the acromioclavicular joint injury to his throwing shoulder on Saturday night at Penn State when he scrambled out of the pocket and landed on hard on his left side after being hit on the run. Indiana’s depth got even thinner at running back after sophomore Tim Baldwin, Jr. placed his name in the transfer portal. National recruiting site Rivals appeared to be the first to report the news on Monday morning, and 247Sports soon followed.  Indiana head coach Tom Allen confirmed the reports at a Monday morning press conference. “He’ll no longer be part of our football team,” Allen said. Indiana punter James Evans had never played American football prior to the 2021 season.  After Saturday night, he is much better acclimated to the game. Unable to get anything going offensively, IU lost 24-0 to Penn State at Beaver Stadium on Saturday night in University Park, Pa. in front of an announced crowd of 105,951.  The Hoosiers were shut out for the first time since a 58-0 Oct. 14, 2000 loss at Michigan. UPDATE:  Tom Allen provides the latest on Penix’s status on Monday Indiana quarterback Michael Penix, Jr.’s long history with injuries continued on Saturday evening at University Park, Pa. Penix was tackled as he scrambled to his left and he fell hard on his left shoulder.  He was attended to on the field and went directly to the locker room and did not return in IU’s 24-0 loss to Penn State.
