As speedy slot receiver D.J. Matthews laid on the turf in Bowling Green clutching his knee, it was difficult to not wonder if Indiana’s season was lying there too, also perhaps unable to recover. Indiana football head coach Tom Allen met with the media on Thursday to take questions going into the team’s penultimate game against Minnesota. The Hoosiers (2-8, 0-7) and Minnesota (6-4, 4-3) kick off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.  The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Four months from now it will simply count as an important win on a postseason resume. Indiana was by no means perfect on Wednesday against St. John’s in connection with the Gavitt Games.  Following a familiar script, they ran out to a big lead, at one point 37-23, only to watch it all melt away in front of a raucous and at times nervous crowd at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.  But the Hoosiers competed and found enough answers in the critical moments down the stretch to claim a 76-74 win over a very talented and tough-minded Red Storm squad. Indiana defeated St. John’s by a final score of 76-74 on Wednesday evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Leading the way for Indiana was Trayce Jackson-Davis with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  IU led 39-27 at halftime. The Hoosiers (3-0) will host Louisiana on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
