Although he was intrigued, class of 2023 guard Jakai Newton didn’t know much about Indiana before his official visit to Bloomington last weekend. Before he left, he had already decided to become IU’s first commit in the high school junior class. And just a few days after concluding that official visit, Newton announced on Friday afternoon he has verbally committed to IU. “I really had my mind made up during the visit,” Newton told The Daily Hoosier on Tuesday evening.  “My parents said we should go home and talk about it, and we’re ready now.” It has been a whirlwind…

While many of the IU basketball recruiting prospects who attended Hoosier Hysteria were more locally-based, Jacob Theodosiou trekked a long way to get down to Bloomington for the event. Why did he want to make the nearly six hour journey from Western Reserve Academy in northern Ohio? The class of 2024 guard already has good vibes with Indiana, but more important, he sees a playing style that is a potential good fit. “Indiana was the first school that ever reached out to me, so they hold a soft spot in my heart for that for sure,” Theodosiou told The Daily…

Indiana’s secondary held up without starting cornerbacks Tiawan Mullen and Reese Taylor last weekend against Michigan State, but the test gets even more difficult on Saturday night. Few if any teams in America can put three receivers on the field as talented as Ohio State’s trio. Indiana found a new way to lose depth in the cornerback room — the transfer portal. Redshirt sophomore cornerback Larry Tracy III is the latest midseason loss for the Hoosiers.  Tracy played sparingly during his three years, and that may have ultimately led to his decision to leave midseason. IU has been very thin at the corner position, with their top three — Tiawan Mullen, Reese Taylor and Jaylin Williams — all missing time recently, and top back-up Chris Keys out for the season with a knee injury. Mullen and Taylor were both unavailable vs. Michigan State, and that led…
