Same as last week, same as the week before that. The same seemingly all year. It is understandable at this point why Tom Allen seems to be exhausted with the injury questions. “Same as last week,” Allen said on Thursday when asked about the health of starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. and his backup Jack Tuttle. “Guys are working through everything, and we are trying to get them ready. Don’t know for sure yet on Michael and Jack, but just working and throwing and trying to get them better. We are seeing progress, but we will have to see. We…
As speedy slot receiver D.J. Matthews laid on the turf in Bowling Green clutching his knee, it was difficult to not wonder if Indiana’s season was lying there too, also perhaps unable to recover. A year ago Ty Fryfogle earned the Big Ten’s receiver of the year due to what was effectively a run of three stellar games when he hauled in 25 catches for 560 yards against Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. With opposing defenses overloading their attention on Whop Philyor, Fryfogle had space to operate and often his man had no help over the top. When teams…

Update: Galloway’s mother provided this update on Friday — “He is out of surgery. Dr. Said hopefully 4 weeks.” The original story follows. ————————– Indiana’s luxury of having all 13 available scholarship players healthy didn’t last long. Sophomore guard Trey Galloway suffered a broken left wrist last night after he fell to the floor hard on a play in which he was flagrantly fouled. Galloway’s mother broke the news. “Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes,” Dawn Galloway wrote on social media. “Trey will have surgery tomorrow (Friday) at 10:00 am. Broken left wrist. 6 weeks (sooner the…

Four months from now it will simply count as an important win on a postseason resume. Indiana was by no means perfect on Wednesday against St. John’s in connection with the Gavitt Games. Following a familiar script, they ran out to a big lead, at one point 37-23, only to watch it all melt away in front of a raucous and at times nervous crowd at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. But the Hoosiers competed and found enough answers in the critical moments down the stretch to claim a 76-74 win over a very talented and tough-minded Red Storm squad. Let’s…
