We are not in crisis mode quite yet, but Indiana finds itself in an all too familiar February free fall. There were promising moments at The Breslin Center — a 9-5 start, a 9-0 late first half run and an 8-0 start to the second half.  But those stretches were the exceptions, and a 22-7 Michigan State run in the game’s final ten minutes the final dagger in a third straight loss for IU. Indiana lost to Michigan State by a final score of  76-61 on Saturday afternoon at The Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich. The Hoosiers trailed 37-30 at halftime and were led in the game by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 17 points.  Race Thompson added 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.  Tamar Bates also had 13 points, matching a career-high.  The Hoosiers opened the second half on an 8-0 run but couldn’t sustain their momentum. Michigan State did Indiana a favor earlier in the week by knocking Michigan out of first place, elevating the Hoosiers into the top spot. On Saturday in Bloomington, the hosts showed MSU no gratitude. The Big Ten Conference has announced Indiana’s men’s basketball game against Ohio State, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon in Columbus, will now be played on Monday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. and will air on FS1. The move was necessary so Ohio State and Iowa could make up their Feb. 3 weather-related postponed game.  That game will now be played on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Columbus. The move will give Indiana nearly a week off between games.  They host Wisconsin on Tuesday, Feb. 15 after facing Michigan State this weekend.  The change also means IU will play two games…

Mike Woodson didn’t hire Dane Fife for his intel on the Michigan State basketball program. But he isn’t going to run from his assistant coach’s ten years spent working at MSU under Tom Izzo either. Before joining Woodson’s staff in April, Fife had been to five Sweet 16s, three Elite Eights and two Final Fours with Izzo at Michigan State. Trey Galloway scored nine of Indiana’s first 14 points on Tuesday, helping the Hoosiers jump out to a six-point lead against Northwestern in Evanston. Former one-and-done IU star Romeo Langford is headed to Texas according to reports. The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach is reporting Langford has been dealt to the San Antonio Spurs in connection with a trade involving Josh Richardson, Derrick White and a draft choice. The 14th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Langford is averaging career highs in points (4.7) and rebounds (2.4) this season with Boston while playing 16.5 minutes per contest.  He dealt with numerous injuries during his first two seasons in the league and played in just 32 games in 2019-20, and 18 in 2020-21. Indiana University men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson has announced via release that the five players disciplined on Tuesday against Northwestern will be available to play on Saturday at Michigan State. Tamar Bates, Michael Durr, Xavier Johnson, Khristian Lander and Parker Stewart did not play against the Wildcats in Evanston, a game the Hoosiers lost 59-51. In the release, Woodson hinted that missed curfews were to blame, or at least played a role, in the one-game suspensions. “It’s important that all team rules are followed and a curfew applies to everyone in our program for a reason,” said Woodson. It sounds like “when” rather than “if” as it relates to center Mackenzie Holmes’ return to the IU women’s basketball team this season. The team’s leading scorer and rebounder had a knee procedure in January and hasn’t appeared in a game since Jan. 5.
