On Thursday, the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook published its top-25 and slotted IU in at the No. 12 spot. College programs should now have greater clarity on when to expect athletes might enter the transfer portal. The NCAA Division One Board of Directors has put windows around when athletes can enter the portal while maintaining immediate eligibility. For basketball, the transfer timeframe should generally be from mid-March to mid-May, and for football, the timeframe should generally be from early December to mid-January, with another window May 1-15 following spring practice. The NFL can be a tough business for players on the margin of making rosters. Former IU and Purdue quarterbacks found that out first hand over the last 24 hours. Micah McFadden capped off an impressive month by earning a spot on the New York Giants 53-man roster. The inside linebacker put together a strong preseason. According to PFF he earned an 81.9 overall grade across the three games, 10th best among NFL rookies. His final marks on the preseason included 77.4 run defense, 78.3 pass rush, 82.8 tackling and 67.0 coverage grades. His 13 total tackles was among the team’s preseason leaders. Former IU tight end Peyton Hendershot expected to hear his name called during the 2022 NFL Draft. Instead he followed a more challenging path to playing on Sundays. He reached the football summit on Tuesday. After signing with Dallas as an undrafted free agent in April, Hendershot has made the Cowboys’ 53-man roster following a strong training camp, according to multiple reports.
