Ali Patberg’s basketball career has never had a home base outside of the state of Indiana. On Monday night the Indiana Fever gave her the chance to keep playing home games in front of Hoosiers when they selected the Columbus, Ind. product in the third round. Patberg becomes the fourth IU player selected in the WNBA Draft since the league began and the first since 2011. Indiana’s quest for more scoring pop from the wings has seemingly resonated to some extent with West Virginia transfer Sean McNeil. IU was one of the first schools to reach out to McNeil when he put his name in the portal a couple weeks ago, and they will be one of the six schools he gives final consideration to for his final season of college eligibility. On Feb. 3 Sara Scalia made seven 3-pointers in Bloomington and almost single-handedly led Minnesota to an upset win over Indiana. “I tell you, Sara Scalia is a tough guard. Some of those 3’s she hit were deep and they were tough,” Indiana head coach Teri Moren said after her team escaped with a fourth quarter rally. The Boston Celtics will fill their open roster spot before the playoffs by signing Juwan Morgan to a multi-year contract according to tweets by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal is expected to be for two years, with a non-guaranteed salary for the 2022-23 season, a source tells Keith Smith of CelticsBlog. Indiana extended a scholarship offer on Saturday to one of the top players in the class of 2024. Forward Liam McNeeley attends Plano (Texas) John Paul II H.S., and plays for Drive Nation on the Nike EYBL Circuit. As a sophomore (2021-22) at John Paul II, McNeeley averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in 38 games (all starts), and his team won the TAPPS 6A State Championship after going 31-7 and winning 10 straight to close the season.  He was named first team all-state. Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis has put his name in the 2022 NBA Draft, he announced on his social media pages Saturday. The 6-foot-9 All-Big Ten performer will leave the door open for a return to Indiana. “I am ready to continue this journey, and after long consideration and prayer, I have decided to declare for the 2022 NBA Draft while also maintaining my (college) eligibility,” Jackson-Davis wrote. The announcement means Jackson-Davis will obtain feedback from league executives and coaches.  He is also allowed to sign with an agent without foregoing his college eligibility. Fishers, Ind. product Sydney Parrish announced Saturday she will transfer from Oregon to IU. “What up Hoosier Nation, decided it was time to come home,” Parrish wrote on her Twitter page. Starring for Hamilton Southeastern H.S., Parrish was ranked No. 8 nationally in her class coming out of high school, earning 2020 Miss Basketball and McDonald’s All American honors as a senior.
