Okay, we lied. We’re going to take one more look at the way too early college basketball hype stuff, only because bracketology adds an interesting angle to the various 2022-23 college basketball prognostications we’ve seen thus far, following the decision by Trayce Jackson-Davis to return and the passage of the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline. The NCAA Tournament is what it’s all about, after all. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know by now that virtually every national outlet sees Indiana as the favorite in the Big Ten conference next season. But what does that mean from a bracketology…

“My thing is I like to get a team in position first before we start chasing the big boys.” That was Mike Woodson a year ago when asked about his philosophy on putting together a nonconference schedule. The schedule Woodson designed in year one reflected that sentiment of not rushing into tough games before his team was ready. The Hoosiers faced the high-majors they contractually had to — St. John’s, Syracuse and Notre Dame — and the rest of the nonconference slate involved mid and low major foes. But Woodson was in no mood to afford the same luxury of…
A year ago Mike Woodson made a quick trip back to New York soon after he was hired and introduced as the new head coach of Indiana. The former Knicks head coach and assistant was greeted by his former players one-by-one with hugs and smiles on the court at Madison Square Garden, providing a quick window into the respect pros in the NBA have for him. You could find the same sentiments verbalized from some of Woodson’s former Knicks players from when he was head coach of the franchise. Several of them commented on him during an episode of Knicks…
It should come as no surprise, but the return of Trayce Jackson-Davis has given a major boost to Indiana’s odds to hang a sixth banner. In fact, a winning bet on IU winning a title in Houston next April only pays half as much as it before the All-Big Ten forward said he would play his senior year in Bloomington. But the odds are still fairly long. The Hoosiers have gone from 66-1 to win the 2023 NCAA Championship to 33-1 since Jackson-Davis announced his return last month. According to odds published by BetOnline.ag, only 11 teams have better national…

The combination of the transfer portal and the NBA Draft makes each offseason both eventful and potentially transformative for most programs. Now that the smoke has mostly cleared following the 2021-22 season, we’ll go team-by-team in the Big Ten to assess which programs are set up for success, and who might take a step back. ———— Next up is Michigan. The Wolverines are coming off a largely disappointing 2021-22 season that saw them go from Big Ten preseason co-favorite and national top-10 selection, to the NCAA Tournament bubble. But they…
