Greater familiarity with the college game and comfort with his new role as a father has helped Tamar Bates find a groove as a sophomore guard. Indiana fans are hoping his familiarity with the venue the Hoosiers will be playing in on Saturday will help Bates continue his recent run of high-end production on the offensive end. Before he attended IMG Academy, the Kansas City, Kan. product went to Piper H.S., just 34 miles from the Allen Fieldhouse where he’ll be playing for Indiana on Saturday. When he made his initial college choice, Bates thought he would be playing at…

When Indiana and Kansas meet on Saturday in Lawrence, it will mark the 15th game in the series between the college basketball powers. The earliest games laid the foundation for more than a half century of program greatness for IU. In their first two head-to-head meetings, IU took down KU to claim both the 1940 and 1953 NCAA Championship crowns. The Hoosiers jumped out to a large lead in the series, but then Kansas won five straight including some soul-crushing games in the 90s. Freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino stepped up in a big way the last time Indiana faced one of college basketball’s traditional powers. Will he be available when the Hoosiers take on another at Kansas on Saturday? How his back responds during IU’s Thursday afternoon practice will go a long way towards providing that answer. “Today we’re going to start him out on the floor and see if he can go at practice,” Indiana coach Mike Woodson said during a press conference with the media on Thursday morning. “The last few days he’s kind of shot around and done some things and…

After falling behind 27-8 to No. 8 Arizona in Las Vegas on Saturday, Indiana could never quite complete the climb back. On four different occasions the Hoosiers cut the margin to five points or less after being down by double-figures, only to see the margin swell back to where it was. That resilience in and of itself should have been an encouraging sign for Indiana fans. For far too long, and even into last season, there has been a troubling aspect to IU basketball. On multiple occasions Archie Miller referred to his Indiana teams as “soft” or “scared,” and while…

Will be signing (with Indiana) December 21st.” At Independence McDaniel was named a second-team all-conference pick despite playing in only…
