For the second time in four months, class of 2024 5-star forward Asa Newell was in Bloomington for a visit, this time for a long weekend with the whole family. The energy on the IU campus was a bit different this time with the students in town. And seemingly everyone knew who the 6-foot-10 Montverde Academy product was. That was one of the main things that stood out to the Newell family. “The number one thing, is it’s a basketball school, and the response from Hoosier Nation was overwhelming on social media, and even during our visit everybody knew who…

Trayce Jackson-Davis has seen no shortage of preseason recognition going into his fourth season with IU basketball. There’s been Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, College Hoops Today, The Almanac and CBS Sports, to name the most noteworthy. Today he can claim perhaps the most prestigious preseason honor for an individual — first team AP All-American. Jackson-Davis is joined by Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe, Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, North Carolina’s Armando Bacot, and Houston’s Marcus Sasser on the five man squad, voted on by the same 59-person panel that placed the Hoosiers No. 13 in last week’s preseason top-25. Individual recognition is nothing…

The IU football program’s current challenges extend well beyond their schedule at the moment, but they won’t get any relief from a new Big Ten scheduling format in 2023 as previously hoped. Rather than try to weave in what would effectively end up being an interim solution for the 2023 season, the conference will instead wait until substantial change arrives in 2024 to restructure its approach to scheduling. According to a report by Scott Dochterman of the Athletic, the Big Ten is going to keep the current East and West divisions until the league expands in 2024.  That’s when USC…

With activity in the class of 2023 tapering off, it’s time to dial-in on who the IU basketball program is making serious progress with in the high school junior class. So far, the Indiana has staff has cast a relatively wide net with the class of 2024 when compared to recent years, so there a lot of names to track. A so-called hot board, ranking every prospect in the class by perceived mutual interest is a bit of a fool’s errand.  With things changing by the minute in the recruiting world, a hot board can quickly become obsolete.  But IU…

If you’ve examined rosters up and down the Big Ten, you know most, at least the top 10 or so teams, can put together a fairly solid starting five. What really seems to separate Indiana from the pack right now is the talent they can put on the floor beyond the first five. If you go with the assumption IU will start Xavier Johnson, Jalen Hood-Schifino, Miller Kopp, Race Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis, that means they are bringing off the bench a former starter, two former top-30 recruits, and one of the most explosive athletes in the conference. Big Ten…
