Ohio’s reigning Mr. Basketball will sign his National Letter of Intent with Indiana this week. Class of 2023 4-star point guard Gabe Cupps told The Daily Hoosier he will sign his NLI with IU at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.  The early signing period runs from Nov. 9 to Nov. 16. Cupps verbally committed to Indiana a year ago.  He was named Ohio Mr. Basketball following his junior season at Centerville H.S. near Dayton. Indiana kicked off its highly anticipated 2022-23 season with a convincing win over Morehead State. The Hoosiers let an early 16-9 edge slip away as Morehead State tied the game at 21 with 9:17 left in the first half.  But it was lights out from there, as IU outscored the Eagles 67-32 over the remainder of the contest. Indiana opened its 2022-23 season with an 88-53 win over Morehead State at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. IU led 41-29 at halftime and the Hoosiers were led by Trayce Jackson-Davis and Malik Reneau, who each had 15 points.  Jackson-Davis had a team high seven rebounds. Three quarterbacks saw the field on Saturday in Indiana’s blowout loss to Penn State. But none of them will start when the Hoosiers resume action this weekend and face No. 2 Ohio State. A quarterback already in the transfer portal will start for IU on Saturday when the Hoosiers take on No. 16 Penn State. Jack Tuttle will lineup under center for IU on Saturday afternoon. IU guard Grace Berger and forward Mackenzie Holmes were both named to the Naismith Trophy women’s watch list, announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Friday. Berger is a unanimous preseason All-Big Ten selection as she enters her fifth season with the Hoosiers. She earned a trio of All-American honorable mention accolades last season as she was a first team All-Big Ten honoree as well. The Louisville, Ky. native led Indiana in scoring with 16.2 points and 4.7 assists per game last season.
