Indiana is quietly making progress with one of the top big men in the transfer portal. In fact, Oregon transfer center Kel’el Ware may be on campus in Bloomington for an official visit very soon according to sources.  He is ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the portal according to On3, and the No. 2 center. VCU transfer forward Jalen Deloach is taking an official visit to IU on April 14 according to a report by Dushawn London, a national analyst with 247Sports. The IU basketball program released more information Tuesday regarding its participation in the November Empire Classic in New York City. Indiana will play two games in the event on Nov. 19-20.  Matchups have not been announced.  The other three teams are Louisville, Texas and now defending national champion UConn. Indiana’s search for size in the paint continues, and one player they are involved with is former Marshall center Micah Handlogten. The 7-foot-1-inch, 227-pound Sun Belt Freshman of the Year entered the transfer portal after averaging 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in 2022-23 for the Thundering Herd. According to multiple reports, legendary former IU basketball coach Bob Knight has been hospitalized in Bloomington with an acute illness. Rick Bozich of WDRB in Louisville appears to have reported the news first on Sunday evening. According to the reports, a message was sent to former IU basketball players informing them of the news. The letter asked for prayers for the 82-year-old Knight. The message indicated Knight had been admitted Friday evening, and the hope is he’ll be able to return home sometime soon. Indiana is in the mix for Northern Colorado transfer wing Dalton Knecht, according to a report from Mountain West Wire’s Sean Paul. The 6-foot-6 wing spent the past two seasons with the Bears after two seasons at Northeastern Junior College (CO). A native of Thornton, Colo., Knecht had a tremendous senior campaign for the Bears, leading the Big Sky in scoring with 646 points.  His average of 20.2 points per game also led the Big Sky and ranked 23rd in the nation.
