We are 100 days from the start of the 2023 IU football season, so let’s kick that milestone off with some coverage of the outlook for the seventh year of the Tom Allen era. Yes, wow, seven years already. On Thursday, ESPN’s Bill Connelly published updates to his SP+ model, our favorite data driven tool for college football rankings and forecasts. SP+ factors each team’s returning production, recent recruiting success, and recent on field performance to produce rankings for each of the now 133 FBS programs. Overall IU dropped from 64th to 71st nationally in Connelly’s SP+ from the initial…

Fans will enjoy watching the guys in suits come out of the tunnel in November almost as much as the current players. One-by-one the program greats will emerge. There’s Jordan Hulls, and there’s Randy Wittman. Look, there’s Calbert Cheaney, and here comes Mike Woodson. Four former IU basketball stars with careers as much as 33 years apart, and they all will have roles with the 2023-24 Hoosiers. Hulls joined the staff a year ago to become the recruiting director. Wittman has been a non-staff advisor to Woodson since he took the IU head coaching job. And you’ve likely heard by…

Indiana made the final seven for fast-rising 2024 point guard Curtis Givens. Along with Indiana, Givens told On3’s Joe Tipton he’s considering Georgia Tech, LSU, Memphis, Texas, UConn, and Villanova. Indiana offered Givens a month ago after the first live recruiting period in April. He has not made any visits to this point. The 6-foot-3 Givens attends Montverde Academy where he teams with fellow IU 2024 targets Liam McNeeley, Asa Newell and Derik Queen. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Givens is the No. 70 overall player in the 2024 class and the No. 12 point guard. Givens has been…
The IU women’s basketball program has made a late portal addition to their 2023-24 roster. UT-Martin transfer forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks announced on her Instagram page she has committed to Indiana. Currie-Jelks averaged 15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.0 blocks in 29.4 minutes per game for the Skyhawks as a freshman in 2022-23. She shot 53.9 percent from the field, 23.8 percent from beyond the arc and 73.8 percent from the free throw line. The 6-foot-2 Currie-Jelks was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and tabbed to the All-OVC first team. She earned a…
It’s not clear whether Indiana will gain traction, but Cam Spencer clearly fits a need on the Hoosiers’ 2023-24 roster, and they are at a minimum in contact with the Rutgers transfer shooting guard. That’s according to a report by Adam Zagoria and Brian Fonseca for NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. That report says IU is in contact with 6-foot-4 Spencer, along with a list that includes UConn, Georgetown, Kentucky, Miami and Texas. Spencer entered the portal last week at a time when the big-time players available are dwindling. His timing, along with elite ability as a perimeter shooter, means…
While IU continues to evaluate the landscape for a potential late backcourt addition, things appear to be settled on the frontline after the addition of class of 2023 5-star Mackenzie Mgbako. Five of the seven players from the 2022-23 team who won’t be back next season were forwards or centers, including all three starters. So it’s been a complete overhaul for coach Mike Woodson and his staff. What does it look like next season if the roster is set? Below we take a look at the 2023-24 frontcourt as things currently stand. See also: As it stands — A look…
Indiana’s historic season came to a close in a 7-3 loss to top seed and No. 4 ranked Tennessee in the NCAA regional final at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on Sunday. After falling behind 2-0 in the first, IU had opportunities with bases loaded situations in the second and third but failed to get a runner across the plate. Tennessee opened the game up in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to increase the deficit to 7-0. Earlier in the day the Hoosiers eliminated Louisville 4-2 to stay alive. Indiana scored three runs in the…
IU and Purdue agree on something! Seemingly since the inception of sports, professional athletes have been able to monetize their name, image and likeness without controversy. But in the two years since NIL was allowed by the NCAA, coupled with the introduction of the transfer portal, all hell has broken loose. The main reason why things are chaotic is fairly simple — because very little of the payments players are receiving right now in college sports have anything to do with their NIL. Stop me when you’ve seen a collective gathering money from wealthy and desperate fans to pay the…
The potential prospects to fill Indiana’s final roster opening are dwindling by the day. There’s little doubt what the priority need is for IU’s available scholarship. The Hoosiers have a clear opening for a volume scoring shooting guard who is proven in college and projects at the high major level. Beyond that, there isn’t much sense in recruiting over the current roster. And at this point there’s just as good of a chance that Indiana doesn’t add another player to next season’s roster. What does it look like next season if the roster is set? Below we take a look…
