Seven former IU basketball players saw minutes in the NBA this season. Three of them are with teams in the 2023 NBA Finals. The Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets will begin a seven-game series this week.  Former Indiana center Cody Zeller and guard Victor Oladipo are with the Heat, while center Thomas Bryant is with the Nuggets. How much they play remains to be seen. Oladipo is certain to not play at all after suffering a season-ending knee injury a month ago.  He averaged 10.7 points in 42 games for Miami before the injury. IU baseball has received an at large invite to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. After the sixth 40-win regular season in program history, the Hoosiers will take part in the Lexington Regional. It is the 10th all-time appearance in the NCAA postseason for the Hoosiers.The No. 3 seed Hoosiers (41-18) will open play against No. 2 seed West Virginia (39-18) at Kentucky Proud Park on Friday (June 2) at 7 p.m.  The game will air on ESPN+.  Host and No. 12 national seed Kentucky and No. 4 seed Ball State will play the first game of the day on Friday at…

MEMPHIS — Memorial Day weekend represents the final high school shoe circuit action until July, so that means many of the nation’s top prospects will begin scheduling summer campus visits for June or the middle to late part of July and into August. MEMPHIS — Rakease Passmore is maximizing his exposure and reps against elite competition during his final spring and summer of AAU basketball.  He’s played on both the the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring, along with the Nike EYBL here in Memphis. “I like it because it’s different.  It’s way faster,” Passmore told The Daily Hoosier about playing on the Nike EYBL with Team Thad. Ranked No. 48 in the 2024 class by the On3 Industry Average, Passmore is a 4-star and the No. 16 small forward according to that outlet. Nearly three years to the day, there is finally some measure of justice. Three people have been convicted by a jury in connection with the 2020 fatal shooting of former IU football player Chris Beaty. Beaty was shot and killed on May 30, 2020 as he walked through an alley near his apartment building during a wave of violence and riots in Indianapolis.  He died while rushing to the aid of two women who were being robbed, and also sent text messages checking on his neighbors moments before the incident. There will be no easing in to the 2023 season. Like Tom Allen’s first full season as head coach in Bloomington, the Hoosiers will open the 2023 campaign by hosting national power Ohio State. Indiana was cruising on Thursday afternoon through the first six innings behind a solid effort from starting pitcher Luke Sinnard. But once the IU ace left, the wheels came off at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. Trailing 4-1 going into the seventh inning, No. 3 seed Iowa posted four runs in the top half to take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
