Former IU basketball guard Jalen Hood-Schifino was selected in the first round by the Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA Draft on Thursday evening. Thursday evening will mark a major milestone in the lives of Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis, and the IU basketball staff will be out with them in full support. Both players are widely expected to be chosen this evening at the 2023 NBA Draft. Indiana was widely speculated to be potential destination for Kentucky guard Antonio Reeves if he entered the transfer portal. But it appears that speculation can stop. Since we included Reeves in a story on potential late additions a couple weeks back, we’ll close the loop with an update today. Multiple national reporters indicated on Wednesday morning Reeves has returned to the Kentucky campus and is expected to play for the Wildcats next season. When Jalen Hood-Schifino’s name is called on Thursday evening, it will be the first time since 2019 that a former IU basketball player has been chosen in the NBA Draft. But the expectation is he won’t be the only Hoosier chosen this week. While Hood-Schifino is a consensus first round pick, Trayce Jackson-Davis is widely expected to be selected late in the first round or somewhere in the early to middle part of the second. The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Dunlap attends Enterprise H.S., a Class 7A program in Enterprise, Ala.  He also plays basketball at the school. One of the fastest rising shooting guards in the class of 2024 is North Carolina based Austin Swartz. Swartz entered the spring a bit under the radar, but he’s posted massive numbers on the Nike EYBL. With 21 points per game, Swartz was the third-highest scorer on the Nike EYBL Circuit this spring. He added 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 44.3 percent from the field overall including 37.2 percent from three, and Swartz made 88.9 percent from the stripe. There are just a few more weeks before AAU basketball wraps up and rising seniors go fully into college decision mode. As things stand right now, IU will have a minimum of three roster openings next season — the spots occupied by super seniors Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker, along with the currently unused scholarship. Indiana may get a chance to host class of 2024 5-star big man Flory Bidunga on his final official visit. IndyStar high school reporter Kyle Neddenriep wrote on Saturday “the five-star prospect plans to visit Indiana on an official visit prior to making his (college) decision.” The 6-foot-10 Kokomo H.S. center is ranked No. 4 overall nationally according to the On3 Industry Average.  He’s taken multiple visits to IU but hasn’t taken a longer official visit to this point.
