It raised some eyebrows when IU coach Curt Cignetti said in the spring redshirt freshman Albert Mendoza was the likely backup quarterback for the Hoosiers in 2025. It wasn’t as if anyone doubted eventually Alberto would be ready for the spotlight in Bloomington, but from the outside the frame of reference was relatively thin — and a bit unconvincing. Alberto played in one game as a true freshman in 2024. That came late in a 77-3 win over FCS opponent Western Illinois, and like a lot of first-year players, he looked tentative. Year two at Indiana brings a new dynamic…

Indiana’s injury report for today’s game against Kennesaw State contains no major surprises, but certainly some concerns at safety and punter. As reported earlier this week, veteran safety Bryson Bonds is out for the season. His absence will be felt on special teams and on the depth chart. For a second straight game, freshman safety Byron Baldwin is listed as out as well. Coach Curt Cignetti described his situation as “day-to-day” earlier this week, but he’s missing some valuable early season reps. The status of Baldwin will come into even greater focus next week if starting free safety Louis Moore…

The last time Dexter Williams played a game at Memorial Stadium, he left the field on a cart and went to the hospital. That was the final game of the 2022 campaign, when up to that point Williams looked like he could be in the early stages of a lengthy run as the Indiana quarterback. As it turned out, Williams would never play again in Bloomington. That is, until this Saturday, when the IU graduate leads Kennesaw State’s offense on the field as the Owls starting quarterback. “I’m trying to [keep it] just business as usual,” Williams told the Kennesaw…
