IU basketball’s first offer in the 2026 class goes to 6-foot-11 top-10 prospect Sam Funches. The Mississippi product reported the offer on his social media pages. According to the On3 Industry Average, Funches is the No. 10 overall player in the 2026 class and the top-ranked center. Funches attends Germantown H.S. in Madison, Mississippi.  As a high school freshman he averaged 17 pts 10 rebounds and five blocks per game. Brendan Sorsby has looked like he might be on to something over the last few weeks. If it’s taking a minute for the redshirt freshman to get into a rhythm, that’s understandable on multiple levels. Going back to the spring, the Texas native’s reps have been limited as he competed with Tayven Jackson for the starting job. But over the last three weeks, Sorsby has completed 47-of-81 passes (58 percent) with five touchdowns and one interception.  He’s added two rushing scores. Class of 2024 top-20 big man Derik Queen has had a lot of people guessing. Everybody saw the floor in Indiana’s 96-43 season opening win over Eastern Illinois. The Hoosiers scored the last eight points of the first quarter to take a 29-14 lead and never looked back in front of 8,380 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Thursday evening. In accordance with Big Ten rules, Indiana will be posting an availability report before every game this year. Expect to see freshman guard Jakai Newton’s name on it for a while. The 6-foot-3 and 203-pound Georgia native had a knee procedure in August, was at IU’s media day in September on crutches, and was walking with a limp at Hoosier Hysteria a few weeks ago. After winning the Big Ten regular season crown a year ago, Indiana hopes there’s no fall from Grace in 2023-24. The Hoosiers return most of the key contributors from last year’s team, but they do face the reality of playing without Grace Berger for the first time in five years.  Berger recently completed a successful rookie season with the Indiana Fever. Today is the first day of the early November signing period, and Indiana has announced 2024 5-star forward Liam McNeeley has signed his national letter of intent.
