What is Indiana’s reward for an impressive 10-4 NCAA Tournament opening round win over Southern Miss? How about the national No. 1 seed and host school Tennessee Volunteers. No. 1 Tennessee (51-11) defeated Northern Kentucky 9-3 on Friday evening, setting up a Saturday evening matchup with the Hoosiers. The first pitch is slated for 6:06 p.m. ET at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. Indiana (33-24-1) will be treated as the home team despite the game being held at Tennessee. The Vols played in front of a mostly orange-clad record crowd of 6,396 on…
It was one of the more questionable decisions in the history of IU football. After starting at quarterback for Indiana for three seasons, Antwaan Randle El was only a few yards from becoming the first player in NCAA history to pass for 6,000 yards and to rush for 3,000 yards in a career. And that’s when head coach Cam Cameron, in year five of a seven-year contract and squarely on the hot seat, did the unthinkable. Randle El insisted at the time it was his idea, but Cameron signed off on moving one of college football’s most dynamic players to…
Only one time in 2023 was Indiana favored to win a game by more points than they’ll be when they open the 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Florida International. And that one time a year ago came against an FCS opponent — Indiana State. Indiana needs to roll through their non-conference schedule with relative ease this fall, and Draft Kings Sportsbook thinks that will be the case in week one. According to Draft Kings Sportsbook, Indiana is an 18.5 point favorite against FIU. New IU head coach Curt Cignetti will begin his Indiana tenure on Saturday, August 31, with…
Indiana is going to the Rose Bowl! In prime time! Okay, it isn’t the Rose Bowl game, but as you’ve known for a while, the Hoosiers are going to play in the Rose Bowl Stadium against UCLA this fall. It will be Indiana’s first game at the famous venue since their last appearance in the Rose Bowl game on January 1, 1968 vs. USC. On Thursday, Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported IU’s Sept. 14 game at UCLA will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and air on NBC. Indiana confirmed McMurphy’s report and also released television designations and kick…
Indiana has missed the NCAA Tournament six of the last eight years. Sorry to ruin your day with that reminder. But it’s a fact, and a run of futility that spans three coaches, and has Hoosier fans on edge at the moment after Mike Woodson’s first March Madness whiff in three seasons. And if you had to pick one constant during this less than stellar run of IU basketball, an overall lack of dynamic backcourt play might just be it. Consider this: Indiana hasn’t had a first team All-Big Ten guard since Yogi Ferrell in 2016. They haven’t had a…
The IU basketball-themed TBT squad just keeps getting better. On Thursday it was announced Indiana’s all-time assist leader Yogi Ferrell will join Assembly Ball in The Basketball Tournament (TBT). Ferrell will be joined by previously announced players Juwan Morgan, Miller Kopp, Troy Williams and Devonte Green. An Indianapolis native, Ferrell played five seasons in the NBA after going undrafted. He currently plays overseas. Ferrell is Indiana’s all-time leader in assists (633) and games played and started (137). He ranks seventh in points scored with 1,986. He helped lead IU to a Big Ten title as a freshman (2013) and as…
IU basketball will host the South Carolina Gamecocks in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, the program said Wednesday via release. According to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, this is not expected to be a home-and-home series, but instead just a lone game in Bloomington. The time and television designation of the game will be announced at a later date. The Hoosiers hold a 2-1 series lead over South Carolina. The Gamecocks will return to Bloomington for the first time since an 84-71 Hoosier win on Dec. 22, 1973. Indiana…
Since Indiana’s 2023-24 season came to an end, all of the focus turned to filling holes on the roster via the transfer portal. But the Hoosiers have six players returning from last year’s squad, so it’s time to look back at how they performed, and the outlook for 2024-25. We’ll start the series with 6-foot-9 and 233-pound Malik Reneau, who is returning to IU for his third season with the program. WHAT WENT WELL After a freshman season that saw Reneau come off the bench behind Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson, the Miami, Fla. product stepped into a significant role…
As we’ve blasted on repeat for a while here, Malachi Moreno is going to be main recruiting target of IU basketball as the class of 2025 hits the homestretch. Mike Woodson offered Moreno in 2022, and the Georgetown, Ky. (Great Crossing H.S.) product has been on the IU campus several times since for various unofficial visits. It’s clear there is a strong mutual interest. Playing for undefeated Indiana Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring, Moreno is averaging 13.7 points while adding 9.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. He’s shooting 64.4 percent from the field. And with his strong play,…
