The 2026-27 college basketball season is just four months away. And rosters are fairly locked in at this point.
IU basketball does still have one open roster spot, but it doesn’t appear to this point we’ll see a pivotal addition to the team, if any.
In our last look at several preseason too-early top-25s, Indiana was a fairly consistent No. 20 to No. 30 team, and that’s where the Hoosiers remain in ESPN’s July update.
Jeff Borzello of that outlet has the Hoosiers in his “next five” at No. 29.
Borzello’s top team in the Big 10 this season? The Illinois Fighting Illini are No. 3 nationally with a potent starting five.
Michigan dropped three spots to No. 5 despite not yet losing any players in the aftermath of coach Dusty May’s departure to the NBA.
Also from the Big Ten — No. 9 Michigan State, No. 12 USC, No. 22 Nebraska and No. 26 Purdue.
What we know of Indiana’s 2026-27 schedule is favorable when it comes to these ranked opponents. In fact, if those teams truly represent the top of the league, IU couldn’t ask for a much better draw.
Indiana plays all of Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State and USC at home only this season. They’ll travel to Nebraska and play Purdue both home and away.
Indiana also has a couple high major opponents known for the 2026-27. Kentucky is No. 17 in the ESPN update, while Syracuse is unranked. Both of those game are in Indianapolis.
There are still eight nonconference games unannounced to this point.
