The No. 1 ranked recruiting prospect in 2027 class will be visiting IU football this weekend

Indiana football will be getting a visit from the No. 1 ranked player in the class of 2027, Texas-based defensive tackle Jalen Brewster.

That is according to national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong of Rivals.

Although he has verbally committed to Texas Tech, Brewster’s recruitment has remained open over the last few months, and the IU staff, led by defensive tackles coach Pat Kuntz, has remained in the hunt.  The Red Raiders had an offseason change at defensive line coach that appears to have caused Brewster to reconsider.

Brewster is the consensus No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2027 class across Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN.  He’s the No. 1 overall player in the class at Rivals and ESPN.

This will not be Brewster’s first visit to Bloomington.  He was on campus on multiple occasions in 2025, including for the 63-10 win over Illinois.

Brewster’s visit this weekend will coincide with the spring game Thursday evening, Little 500 weekend, and official visits from a wave of additional high-end recruiting prospects.

Although he now lives in Cedar Hill, Texas, Brewster is originally from Indianapolis and his family has ties to the IU football staff.  His father Robert Brewster was a First Team All-MAC offensive tackle at Ball State from 2005-08.  There he was a teammate of IU defensive coordinator Bryant Haines, and IU offensive quality control analyst Eddie Burk.

Rivals describes Brewster as an “Uber-athletic defensive line prospect with true game-wrecking ability. Measured in at around 6-foot-3, 300 pounds prior to his junior season. Tests as an elite athlete in the combine setting, easily cracking 5.0 seconds in the 40-yard dash.”

Brewster’s junior season highlights are below.
