Report: Malachi Moreno says he’ll “definitely” officially visit “blue blood” IU basketball

As we’ve blasted on repeat for a while here, Malachi Moreno is going to be main recruiting target of IU basketball as the class of 2025 hits the homestretch.

Mike Woodson offered Moreno in 2022, and the Georgetown, Ky. (Great Crossing H.S.) product has been on the IU campus several times since for various unofficial visits.

It’s clear there is a strong mutual interest.

Playing for undefeated Indiana Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring, Moreno is averaging 13.7 points while adding 9.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. He’s shooting 64.4 percent from the field.

And with his strong play, the competition for Moreno has only intensified, with North Carolina recently offering, and the new staff at home state Kentucky showing heavy interest.

The 7-foot Moreno was in Colorado over the weekend competing for a spot on Team USA U18 men’s team and he caught up with Matt Whitfield of Zags Blog.

Moreno made it clear he continues to hold IU in high regard.

“Indiana, I consider them a blue blood to be honest,” Moreno told Whitfield. “They have been involved in my recruitment since I was a freshman. And I have only grown tighter and closer with them ever since.”

Like most of the top players in his class, Moreno intends to complete AAU basketball over the next 6-7 weeks, and then begin the process of narrowing his list of schools and scheduling visits.

Moreno considers Indiana a school he will definitely carve-out a few days for with an official visit in the coming months as he enters decision-making mode.

“I’ll probably start [taking officials] late summer or early fall,” Moreno told Zags Blog. “I’ll definitely take one to Indiana, Baylor, Kentucky, Ohio State. I already took an official to Iowa, but I will definitely try and make it back up there.”

Based on comments by his AAU teammate Braylon Mullins to The Daily Hoosier last month, the Indiana visit will likely involve a football game, and include Moreno, Mullins and their 2025 Indiana Elite teammate Trent Sisley all at the same time.
