Elon transfer forward Nick Dorn is expected to be a key contributor for Indiana basketball this season.
But to this point Dorn has missed all of IU’s exhibition action, live scrimmage and games this summer in Puerto Rico.
His debut on the court should be coming very soon.
According to a report by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Dorn “hopes to be fully cleared for all basketball related activities this week and if so, would be questionable for the opener on November 5th against Alabama A&M, per Darian DeVries.”
The Daily Hoosier can confirm Rothstein’s report, via a source.
Dorn has been practicing with the team for a while in most activities, just waiting for this final clearance.
“It’s going to be challenging early just with Nick making his way back, how quickly he can get back into that game conditioning, and then also for us to get a little feel for where to best utilize him and plug him in,” DeVries said a few weeks ago.
The 6-foot-7 and 223-pound Dorn averaged 15.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 30.7 minutes per game for Elon last season. He missed the last few weeks of the 2024-25 season with a foot injury.
DeVries clarified in September that Dorn had a foot fracture (Jones fracture) last year, and the procedure subsequently had to be redone.
“It’s been frustrating but everything happened for a reason,” Dorn told TDH in September. “Life keeps going, you can’t keep dwelling on it. You’ve gotta focus on the solution.”
Indiana opens the 2025-26 season next Wednesday, Nov. 5 vs. Alabama A&M.
