Former IU basketball star OG Anunoby has landed a massive new deal to remain with the New York Knicks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN is reporting.

“Free agent F OG Anunoby intends to sign a five-year, $212.5 million contract to return to the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski wrote on X.  “Deal will include a player option and a trade kicker.”

The deal is the largest in Knicks history and may be the biggest contract ever signed by any IU professional athlete.

According to Ian Begley, Anunoby passed up max offers to return to the Knicks.

The 26-year-old Anunoby was traded midseason to New York, and the Knicks went 20-3 in games he played in.

In 23 games played with the Knicks, Anunoby averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.7 steals per game.  He has become a good 3-point shooter, making 38% of his attempts on more than five hoists per game.

Anunoby is regarded as one of the league’s best defensive players. He finished the 2022-23 NBA season with the most steals per game, 1.9, and total steals, 128.

With Toronto in 2019 Anunoby won an NBA title.

After two years at Indiana, Anunoby was the 23rd pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

He entered the draft coming off of a sophomore season-ending ACL injury with Indiana. Anunoby was averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game for IU before the injury.

While he was still a relative unknown nationally towards the end of his freshman year with the Hoosiers, Anunoby was introduced to the basketball world in a Sweet 16 contest against Kentucky when he made several eye-catching plays, including a crucial late-game block on a 3-pointer by Jamal Murray.

    The NBA discussions intensified immediately.

Coming out of high school, Anunoby was a 3-star recruit, ranked No. 294 nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.
