Report indicates IU football will play 2024 game at Chicago soccer stadium

Northwestern’s hunt for home fields in 2024 is expected to lead Indiana to an unusual destination: SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill.

The Northwestern Rivals site is reporting IU’s Oct. 5 game at Northwestern this fall will be played at the soccer-specific stadium in the Chicago suburbs.

SeatGeek Stadium is located about twelve miles southwest of downtown Chicago. It is the home stadium of the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League, Chicago Fire FC II of the MLS Next Pro, and the Chicago Hounds of the Major League Rugby.

The venue has also hosted FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and concerts.

Built in 2006, SeatGeek Stadium (formerly known as Toyota Park) seats 28,000.

The alternate location is necessary as Northwestern has commenced the process of building a new football stadium.  Demolition of the old Ryan Field on the campus began this month.

Demolition is expected to take three to four months with construction of the new $800 million stadium of the same name to be completed at the same site for the 2026 college football season.

Northwestern is also exploring playing some of its home games at more iconic venues like Wrigley Field, Soldier Field and even Lambeau Field in Wisconsin.

The game will be Indiana and new head coach Curt Cignetti’s second road trip of the 2024 campaign.  The Hoosiers will travel to UCLA to face the Bruins in the Rose Bowl on Sept. 14.
