Indiana football may be in Atlanta preparing for Friday’s Peach Bowl, but the Hoosiers are still rolling in the transfer portal.
Per CBS Sports, IU picked up a commitment from Tulsa defensive lineman Joe Hjelle on Friday morning.
Hjelle is Indiana’s fourth defensive line commitment of this portal cycle, but he’s the first defensive tackle of that group. Hjelle has played four years in college, two at Tulsa and and two at the JUCO level.
The Decorah, Iowa native recorded 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one QB hurry this season with the Golden Hurricanes. Hjelle, standing 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, posted a 79.3 overall grade on Pro Football Focus, ranking 24th in the nation among interior defenders.
In 2024 for Tulsa, Hjelle played during all 12 games. He recorded 19 tackles, five unassisted and 14 assisted.. He had 1.5 tackles for loss.
Prior to Tulsa Hjelle played two years at Iowa Western Community College, winning the NJCAA National Championship both seasons.
