The preseason watch list honors continue for Indiana’s 2025 roster.

Transfer wide receiver Makai Jackson is on the Paul Hornung Award preseason watch list.

Now in its 16th season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.

Jackson was utilized in a number of ways over his past two seasons at Appalachian State. There he amassed 73 catches for 1,163 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran five times for 90 yards and a score. Jackson also contributed on special teams, with nine kick returns for 165 yards and two punt returns for 24 yards.

Jackson was a teammate of Indiana receiver Elijah Sarratt in 2022 at Saint Francis. That season he recorded 85 catches for 991 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 13 rushes for 44 yards and three kickoff returns for 90 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza is on the Wuerrfel Trophy watch list.  It’s the third watch list he has appeared on this summer.

The Wuerffel Trophy recognizes college football players who exemplify community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.  Mendoza was also named to the AFCA Good Works Team and he’s on the Maxwell Award watch list.

Here is a full list of IU’s preseason watch list recognition.
