Indiana junior guard Trey Galloway sat out of the Hoosiers’ Sunday 86-56 win over Miami (Ohio) in Indianapolis.  The team announced before the game he was being held out for precautionary reasons.

According to head coach Mike Woodson, the Culver, Ind. product has what he described as a minor knee issue.

“We didn’t play Gallo tonight,” Woodson said.  “He got banged up in the game before or he would have been in the rotation.

“He twisted his knee the other night at Xavier, and we’re just being cautious to make sure he is okay.”

Galloway did not participate in pre-game warmups on Sunday, but he could be seen on the bench in street clothes.  He could be observed both before and during the Miami game on his feet, moving around without an obvious limp.

It is not clear when the injury occurred on Friday night.  He played more than 14 minutes in the second half and Galloway was on the floor at the end of the Xavier game.

On the season Galloway is averaging 4.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 19 minutes per contest.  He’s shooting 50 percent from the field overall and from behind the 3-point arc.

This latest injury follows a pattern for the 6-foot-4 Galloway.  He missed 15 games due to two different injuries last season– a fractured wrist suffered against St. John’s in November, and a groin issue that required surgery.

Galloway also missed a couple games due to a back issue during the 2020-21 season.

Guards Tamar Bates and C.J. Gunn saw an uptick in minutes on Sunday due to Galloway’s injury.

Fellow junior guard Anthony Leal also appeared to suffer an injury on Sunday.  After entering the game with less than two minutes remaining, Leal could be seen limping back to the sidelines just moments later.

Woodson was not asked about Leal’s status after the game.
