Live updates on IU Basketball targets at the EYBL — Saturday notes

The Daily Hoosier is back in Emerson, Ga. for Saturday EYBL action.

IU assistants Kenya Hunter and Yasir Rosemond both started the day by watching an 8 a.m. matchup involving 2024 targets Caleb Williams and Liam McNeeley.

We caught up with McNeeley after his game. He says Indiana is still one of his main schools. He has an official visit to Texas next week, and he says Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky have started to get involved.

IU staff splitting up for 9 a.m action, Hunter watching Jaeden Mustaf (2024, Boo Williams) vs. Meleek Thomas (2025, NY Lightning). Rosemond watching Dylan Harper and Tyler Betsey (2024 New York Rens).

There are also several IU targets on the Team Thad squad that is playing the New York Rens. Rosemond also watching Jasper Johnson (2025), Jayden Quaintance (2025) and Derrion Reid (2024) on Team Thad. Recent Auburn 2024 de-commit LaBaron Philon is another Team Thad player IU was previously looking at.

Mustaf, who has IU in his final five, is excellent at getting downhill and finishing at the rim. He’s not bothered at all by contact. A lot of Hood-Schifino in his game.

Caught up with Mustaf for a lengthy talk. He says he is planning to visit Indiana in June.  See also:  Mustaf talks Indiana, visits, development.

Also caught up with Betsey. He says he is hearing from Rosemond and Mike Woodson. He isn’t as focused on his recruitment right now, and will probably have a better sense at the end of the summer.  He doesn’t have any visits planned right now.

2025 Trent Sisley says he is still hearing a lot from IU. Newer schools involved include Notre Dame and Northwestern.  Beyond Notre Dame, it’s largely a Big Ten race for Sisley.

I mentioned Austin Swartz last night, 2024 shooting guard on Boo Williams. he said he did hear from Indiana this weekend. That’s one to keep an eye on.

Hunter and Rosemond watching 2025 Trey McKenney with the MeanStreets.

I spoke with McKenney after his game.  The Michigan-based prospect says Indiana is in regular contact.  He visited IU for Hoosier Hysteria and a game this season.

The 15u Indy Heat squad has some players with IU attention.  Braylen Langley (Evansville Reitz) is a 6-foot-7 wing with a lot of high major attention.  E.J. Hazelett (Franklin Central H.S.) is 6-foot-6 and skilled.  He IU visited for a game during the season.  Brennan Jay Miller (Lawrence North H.S.), a 6-foot-6 forward, is another player to keep an eye on.

There are IU prospects on other courts, but both Rosemond and Hunter are watch 2024 5-star Liam McNeeley during his afternoon game.

One 2024 IU doesn’t seem to be watching this weekend is Boogie Fland of the PSA Cardinals.  That seems like one recruitment they could be moving on from at this point.

Next round of afternoon games, Hunter and Rosemond split up and watch Caleb Williams and Tyler Betsey/Dylan Harper, respectively.

Some noteworthy stats from these first two days of EYBL action:

    • In-state 2025 point guard Jalen Haralson went 13-of-13 from the free throw line in a game.  He’s averaging 11.5 points and 6.5 assists through two games.  That’s the fourth most assists per game in the EYBL so far.
    • Jaeden Mustaf put up 30 in a game and is averaging 24.5 through two contests.
    • 2025 Meleek Thomas is having no problem playing up a level.  He’s averaging 14 points a game while shooting 59 percent from the field.
    • 2025 Trey McKenney is averaging 14 a game while shooting 52 percent from the field.

    Stay tuned for more updates.
