IU women’s basketball remains No. 16 after rally against Northwestern | Schedule updated

IU women’s basketball remained at No. 16 in Monday’s updated AP top-25 despite a road win over former No. 21 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.

Maryland (7), Michigan (12), Ohio State (14) and Northwestern (23) round out the Big Ten teams in the latest media rankings.  IU’s three losses on the season have come to top-25 teams Maryland, Kentucky (15) and Tennessee (20).

Indiana will host Ohio State on Thursday after an adjustment to the schedule.  See below for more details.

HOOSIERS PRODUCED STUNNING RALLY AT NORTHWESTERN ON SUNDAY

Indiana trailed by as many as 13 in the second half at Northwestern, but behind a 22-point performance from sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes, IU claimed a 72-61 win on Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats (8-3, 6-3 B1G) went on a 10-0 run leading to the third quarter media break as they ran out to a 49-36 advantage. But IU would begin its comeback late in the frame to trail by six, 54-48, going to the fourth.

Buckets from Jaelynn Penn, Holmes and Nicole Cardaño-Hillary tied the game at 56-all. The Hoosier defense also limited the opportunities for the Wildcat offense, holding them without a field goal for over an eight-minute stretch in the fourth.

Indiana (9-3, 7-1) went 11-for-13 at the line in the fourth quarter to finish off the win.

Indiana saw three reach double figures.  Holmes scored 22 while junior guard Grace Berger added 14 and Penn had 12.

Holmes recorded the fourth double-double of her career with 22 points and 10 rebounds. This was her eighth consecutive game in double figures. Her 22 points and 10 rebounds were both team highs.

The Hoosiers went on a 11-1 run to take the lead for good. They would later go on a 14-2 run over the last 5:40 to ensure the victory.

“This is a difficult place to win,” coach Teri Moren said after the game.  “It’s a great basketball team that we faced this afternoon. We are real pleased with the way that we kept plugging away and hanging in there.”
