IU softball in NCAA Tournament for first time since 2011

Indiana softball punched their ticket to the NCAA regionals, earning the No. 2 seed in the Knoxville Regional from May 19-21.

It will be IU’s first time back in the NCAA Tournament since 2011, and first appearance under head coach Shonda Stanton.

The Hoosiers will face No. 3 seed Louisville on Friday at 3 p.m. ET at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.  That game will air on ESPN2. Host Tennessee and Northern Kentucky round out the rest of the regional.

Indiana finished runner-up in the Big Ten Championships last weekend before falling to top-seed Northwestern, 2-1.

IU will appear in the NCAA Regional with a 42-16 overall record and an 18-5 conference record.

The 2023 NCAA Division I softball tournament consists of 64 teams: 32 automatic bids and 32 at-larges, selected by the tournament committee.  The selection committee seeded the top teams, 1-16, to host various regional sites.  Indiana is one of the at-large, unseeded teams.

Each of the 16 regions will see four teams go against each other in a double-elimination format. One team from each region will advance to the super regionals (16 total).
