Former IU baseball star Kyle Schwarber is on pace for another monster season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Just past the season’s midpoint, Schwarber has a Major League Baseball best 30 home runs, four more than second place. He has reached 30 or more home runs in each of his last five seasons, and he’s the ninth player in MLB history to hit 30-plus home runs in each of their first five seasons with a franchise. He joins greats such as Babe Ruth, Manny Ramirez and Albert Pujols on that list.
Now at 370 home runs for his 12-year career, the 33-year-old with multiple All-Star and World Series appearances has a clear chance to eventually reach the Hall of Fame. On his current pace, Schwarber could reach 400 career home runs late this season or early next year. Only 59 players have reached that mark, and only 28 have reached 500.
In 2026, Schwarber has played in 82 games and is hitting .256 with the 30 home runs and 55 runs batted in. His batting average and .369 on base percentage are both his best since the 2021 campaign.
Schwarber has the most career home runs, runs, walks, and strikeouts of any former Hoosier in the MLB.
In addition to Schwarber, five other former Hoosiers have made MLB appearances during the 2026 season thus far:
- Tanner Gordon (Pitcher, Colorado) — 10 appearances with three starts. 0-2, 6.69 ERA.
- Kyle Hart (Pitcher, San Diego) — 19 appearances with one start. 0-1, 4.05 ERA.
- Tim Herrin (Pitcher, Cleveland) — 36 appearances all in relief. 0-3, 3.14 ERA.
- Jack Perkins (Pitcher, Athletics) — 22 apperances with five starts. 2-3, 6.00 ERA.
- Craig Yoho (Pitcher, Milwaukee) — 5 appearances, all in relief. 0-0, 6.00 ERA.
