Below we take a look at Pro Football Focus (PFF) grades, notes and snap counts from Indiana’s week ten game against Maryland — a dominant 55-10 win to remain perfect on the season.
The Hoosiers are No. 1 overall at PFF through nine games. They are the No. 1 offense in the nation, and they have the No. 2 defense behind Texas Tech, and the No. 7 special teams.
Next up for Indiana (9-0, 6-0) is a trip to Penn State (3-5, 0-5) for a Noon ET Saturday kickoff (FOX).
OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS
The top overall offensive grade among the starters went to running back Kaelon Black. He had the top rushing grade on the team and received a good pass blocking mark as well. Black forced two missed tackles and had 82 yards after contact. His 110 rushing yards were the second most in a game for his career, and his most at Indiana. Running backs Roman Hemby and Khobie Martin also received very good grades. All three were over 80 yards on the ground.
Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza and Alberto Mendoza each received good grades. Alberto actually had the best offensive grade on the team, albeit as part of the second unit and with limited snaps. Fernando graded slightly better as a runner, while Alberto had a better passing mark.
The offensive line only allowed five pressures for the game and one sack. Among the starters, the top pass blocking grade went to left tackle Carter Smith, while the top run blocking mark belonged to center Pat Coogan. Smith didn’t allow a pressure in the game, and he’s allowed just one in IU’s last five contests. Filling in for Drew Evans at left guard, Zen Michalski graded substandard in the running game but respectably against the pass. Michalski seemed to settle in after some early game struggles.
Omar Cooper, Jr. got the top receiving grade, with seven catches on nine targets. He did have an early drop, but later ran a beautiful sluggo route for a touchdown. He also had 38 yards after catch.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS
Among the main defensive players, the top grade went to safety Louis Moore, with rover/safety Devan Boykin right behind him. Moore had the top coverage grade on the team, no doubt influenced by a beautiful interception that highlighted his high-end ball skills. Moore is tied for the most interceptions in the nation with five. He has the 24th best coverage grade for the season among players with 100 coverage snaps.
Boykin had the top tackling grade and run defense grade after he amassed five tackles, and a forced fumble that he recovered and returned for a touchdown. Boykin has the second-best run defense grade in the nation at PFF among players over 100 run defense snaps on the season.
The top pass rush grade went to Rolijah Hardy. He also had the second-best tackling grade. Meanwhile, Mikail Kamara led the defense in quarterback pressures with five. Stephen Daley was right behind him with four. As a team IU had 14 pressures. With 32 pressures on the season, Kamara is 20th in the nation and leads IU.
D’Angelo Ponds was targeted once for no receptions.
